Coinbase customer service number: what happens when you call
We called both of the US phone numbers Coinbase publishes for this guide. Each time, a recording said phone support is unavailable and hung up about 11 seconds in. Here's what we heard, what Coinbase's own pages say about scam numbers, and the recording.
The short answer: Coinbase's US customer service number is 1-888-908-7930. Coinbase's blog post on avoiding phone scams names 1-888-908-7930 as the only Coinbase phone number, and Coinbase's help center page Lock or unlock your compromised account lists it for USA/Canada, with a local line, +1 (844) 613-1499, both marked 24/7.
When we called, nobody answered. On Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 1:09 pm Eastern, a recording picked up on 1-888-908-7930 and said: "Thanks for reaching out to Coinbase. Please refer to our help center at help.coinbase.com for additional support as phone support is currently unavailable." Then the line went dead, about 11 seconds after it answered. There was no menu, no hold music and no option to press. We called the local line, 1-844-613-1499, half a minute later and got the same recording, word for word, and the same hang up.
We don't know whether this was a temporary outage or how the line works now. What we can say is what happened on our two calls.
Fake Coinbase numbers are a common scam, so if a number isn't 1-888-908-7930, don't call it. Search results for "coinbase customer service number" are full of PDFs and forum posts listing other numbers, on sites that have nothing to do with Coinbase. Coinbase's own pages say:
- Coinbase doesn't call you first. Coinbase's help center says it never makes outbound phone calls. A call from "Coinbase" you didn't ask for is a scam, even if the caller ID looks right.
- Coinbase won't ask for your password or 2-step code. Coinbase's security tips say its support team will never ask for your password or 2FA codes, or ask you to install software.
- If someone asks for them, hang up. Coinbase's guide to tech support and impersonation scams says to hang up and email security@coinbase.com right away.
We called with call4me, planning to ask a live agent about hours, callbacks, what to have ready, and how to lock a compromised account. We never got the chance. This page is what we heard.
Listen to the call
The whole call to 1-888-908-7930, 11 seconds. Nothing is muted or cut.
- 0:02 "Thanks for reaching out to Coinbase"
- 0:04 "Please refer to our help center at help.coinbase.com for additional support"
- 0:08 "as phone support is currently unavailable"
- 0:11 The call ends
What happens when you call Coinbase, step by step
This is how both lines went on October 22, 2026, at about 1:09 pm Eastern on a Thursday.
- Call 1-888-908-7930 (or the local line, 1-844-613-1499). It answers right away with a recording.
- "Thanks for reaching out to Coinbase. Please refer to our help center at help.coinbase.com for additional support as phone support is currently unavailable."
- The call ends. Coinbase's side hung up. There was no menu, no recording notice, no "para español" and nothing to press or say.
Things that don't work
On October 22, 2026:
- Calling the toll-free number, 1-888-908-7930. Recording, then a hang up.
- Calling the local US and Canada number, 1-844-613-1499. The same recording, then a hang up.
- Waiting for a menu. None plays. The recording ends the call itself.
If your Coinbase account is compromised
The recording sends you to the help center, and Coinbase's help center has a page for this: Lock or unlock your compromised account. Coinbase's security tips say that if you think your account was compromised, you can lock it and then contact Coinbase Support. Start there, at help.coinbase.com, typed in yourself rather than from a link someone sent you.
We couldn't ask an agent how locking works, so we haven't described the steps here.
How we made this recording
call4me is a phone for your AI agent: your agent (Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT) tells it what to get done and it makes the call. For this one, the brief was to reach a live Coinbase agent with general questions for this guide, with no account or personal details to give, and to note every menu prompt on the way.
Before calling, we checked the number against Coinbase's own blog and help center, not directory sites. Coinbase's help center blocks automated page loads, so we read its pages as Google indexes them, which may lag behind the live pages.
The first call reached the recording. We tried once more on the other number Coinbase publishes for the US, with instructions to try any menu option that leads to a person. There wasn't one. Both calls lasted about 12 seconds.
For more phone trees and recorded calls, see the other companies we've called.
Have your agent make this call
If you use call4me, paste this into your agent:
Call Coinbase Support at 1-888-908-7930. It's the only phone number Coinbase lists in the US; don't call any other. If a recording says phone support is unavailable, write down exactly what it says and stop. If a person answers, ask: [your question]. Never give out my password, 2-step verification code or private keys, don't install anything, don't visit any website they suggest, and don't move any funds.
