Cash App customer service number: get past the virtual agent to a person
We called Cash App's support line twice. A virtual agent answers first. On the first call we let it answer our questions; on the second, asking three times for a live representative got us a person 1 minute 35 seconds in. Here's what each said about hours, callbacks and scams, and both recordings.
The short answer: the Cash App customer service number is 1-800-969-1940, open every day from 8 am to 9:30 pm Eastern. Cash App's own help article, Contact Cash App Support on cash.app, says: "You can reach Cash App Support by calling 1 (800) 969-1940. We're here to help every day from 8 AM to 9:30 PM ET." The same article says it's "the only phone number customers can call for Cash App Support." Fake Cash App numbers are a common scam, so if a number isn't 1-800-969-1940, don't call it.
A Cash App virtual agent answers, not a person. This got us to a live representative:
- Call 1-800-969-1940. After "Para español, oprima el dos" and a recording notice: "Hi there, I'm your Cash App virtual agent. Go ahead and describe what's going on."
- Say "I would like to speak with a live representative, please." It asks you to describe your issue "so that I can connect you with the correct agent."
- Describe it in a sentence, and say you need to speak with a live person. It offered to help with general questions itself.
- Ask again to be connected with a live representative. "Please hold while I transfer you to a support team member."
A live Cash App representative answered 1 minute 35 seconds into the call, about 19 seconds after the transfer message.
What the representative told us:
- Hours: 8 am to 9:30 pm Eastern, every day. Same as Cash App's help article.
- You can ask for a callback "especially when there's a long queue." She said "There's a prompt on the screen that is asking them to request a call back instead of waiting on hold for a long time, so that once we are available, we will give them a call back." We weren't offered one: our transfer took about 19 seconds.
- Have your account information ready. "Just make sure that they have their number and name."
- How to spot a scam call: Cash App has one phone number. "If they receive a call or message from another number, claiming that they are a Cash App, they should immediately hang up." And Cash App only calls you if you asked it to: "We don't call them if they didn't request it at all."
The virtual agent, on our first call, added this: "Cash App will never call you first to ask for personal info, and a real rep will never ask for your sign-in code, PIN, Social Security number, or full card number, and they'll never ask you to send a payment or download remote access apps." Cash App's help article says much the same: "Cash App representatives will never ask you for your password, PIN, full card number, or sign-in code," and "We will never ask you to do a 'test' transaction over the phone, social media, or by any other means."
We called on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 3:33 pm Eastern (the first call was at 3:30 pm), with call4me asking the questions. This page is what we heard.
Listen to the call
The call that reached a person, 5 minutes 57 seconds. We muted the representative's first name, once. Nothing else is muted or cut. The quiet stretch from 2:05 to 2:49 is real: she asked for a moment to pull up her tools.
Jump to a moment:
- 0:00 "Thanks for calling Cash App. Para español, oprima el dos"
- 0:11 "This call may be recorded by Cash App or our partners for quality and training"
- 0:23 "Hi there, I'm your Cash App virtual agent"
- 0:32 We ask for a live representative
- 0:39 "So that I can connect you with the correct agent, could you please describe your issue"
- 0:47 We say it's a general question and we need a live person
- 0:59 "I can help with general Cash App questions right now"
- 1:08 We ask again: "Could you connect me with someone?"
- 1:16 "Please hold while I transfer you to a support team member"
- 1:35 A live representative answers
- 2:05 About 45 seconds of quiet while she pulls up her tools
- 3:00 We ask our questions: fastest way to a person, callbacks, hours, what to have ready
- 3:35 The number: 800-969-1940
- 3:43 Callbacks, "especially when there's a long queue"
- 4:07 "8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Eastern time every day"
- 4:27 What to have ready: "their account information"
- 4:48 We ask how to tell a real Cash App call from a scam
- 5:03 "We only have one number"
- 5:20 "We only give a call to a customer if they are the one requesting it"
The Cash App customer service phone tree, step by step
This is how the line went on October 16, 2026. There's no keypad menu: you talk to the virtual agent.
- Call 1-800-969-1940. "Thanks for calling Cash App. Para español, oprima el dos." Then: "This call may be recorded by Cash App or our partners for quality and training."
- "Hi there, I'm your Cash App virtual agent. Go ahead and describe what's going on. The more details you share, the faster I can help. How can I help you today?"
- We asked for a live representative. It answered: "So that I can connect you with the correct agent, could you please describe your issue in as much detail as possible?"
- We described it and asked again for a live person. "I can help with general Cash App questions right now. What specifically would you like to know about Cash App support?"
- We asked a third time: "I really need to speak to a live representative by phone, please. Could you connect me with someone?"
- "Please hold while I transfer you to a support team member. You may be offered a brief survey after this call. Please stay on the line." Then: "Calls are recorded for training and quality assurance."
- A person: "Hi, thank you for calling Cash App support. This is [name removed]. How may I help you today?"
It never asked for a phone number, cashtag or card on the way to a person. We told it up front we had a general question, so we don't know whether a caller with an account problem gets asked for account details before the transfer.
What to have ready
- The phone number and name on your Cash App account. That's what the representative said they use to find and verify your account.
- What's going on, in a sentence. The virtual agent asks you to describe your issue before it transfers you.
- Nothing secret. Cash App's help article says representatives will never ask for your password, PIN, full card number or sign-in code. If someone on the phone does, hang up.
Things that don't work
- Asking the virtual agent your questions instead of asking for a person. On our first call, at 3:30 pm Eastern, our caller described what it wanted, and the virtual agent answered it: hours, the phone number, that chat in the app "is available 24-7", and what a real rep will never ask for. Then it asked "Have I resolved all of your issues today?" Our caller said yes, and the call went to a survey without ever reaching a person.
- Asking for a live representative only once. On the second call, the first request got "could you please describe your issue", and the second got an offer to help with general questions. The third request is what got the transfer.
The whole first call, 2 minutes 6 seconds. Nothing is muted or cut.
- 0:20 "Hi there, I'm your Cash App virtual agent"
- 0:30 Our caller asks its questions, instead of asking for a person
- 0:48 "Our phone support is available daily from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time at 1-800-969-1940"
- 0:58 "You can also reach us through chat in the app, which is available 24-7"
- 1:16 "Cash App will never call you first to ask for personal info"
- 1:38 "Have I resolved all of your issues today?"
- 1:57 The survey starts
How to reach Cash App without calling
Cash App's help article lists the app first. In the app: tap the profile icon on your home screen, select Support, then Start a Chat and send a message, or go to the issue and tap Contact Support. You can also start at cash.app/help. The virtual agent told us chat in the app "is available 24-7".
How we made this recording
call4me is a phone for your AI agent: your agent (Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT) tells it what to get done and it makes the call. For both calls, the brief was to reach a live Cash App representative with general questions for this guide, with no account, cashtag, card or personal details to give.
Our caller got the first call wrong. Its brief said to reach a live representative, but it treated the virtual agent's answers as the goal, said its issues were resolved, and the call ended without a person. For the second call I told it plainly that the virtual agent isn't a person and to keep asking for one, and it did.
On the second call it asked all its questions in one go, so the representative's answer to "what's the fastest way to reach a live person" was just the phone number. We didn't follow up on it.
We kept the audio of both calls as it happened, apart from the muted name.
We've also called Venmo: see the Venmo customer service number. For more phone trees and recorded calls, see the other companies we've called.
Have your agent make this call
If you use call4me, paste this into your agent:
Call Cash App Support at 1-800-969-1940 (every day, 8 am to 9:30 pm Eastern). It's the only phone number Cash App lists; don't call any other. A Cash App virtual agent answers. Ask for a live representative, describe my issue in one sentence when it asks, and keep asking for a live representative until it transfers you. When a person answers, they'll look up my account by my phone number and name, [your Cash App phone number and name]. Then ask: [your question, for example about a payment I sent on (date) for (amount)]. Never give out my PIN, sign-in code, password or full card number, don't send any payment, and don't install anything.

Friday, October 16, 2026, 3:33 pm Eastern. "Cash App" is Cash App's automated system and virtual agent, not a person. "Representative" is the live person. "Caller" is the call4me agent. Her first name is muted in the audio and shown in brackets here.
0:00 Cash App: Thanks for calling Cash App. Para español, oprima el dos.
0:11 Cash App: This call may be recorded by Cash App or our partners for quality and training.
0:23 Cash App: Hi there, I'm your Cash App virtual agent. Go ahead and describe what's going on. The more details you share, the faster I can help. How can I help you today?
0:32 Caller: I would like to speak with a live representative, please.
0:39 Cash App: So that I can connect you with the correct agent, could you please describe your issue in as much detail as possible?
0:47 Caller: Sure. I have a general question about Cash App support for a consumer guide, and I need to speak with a live person.
0:59 Cash App: I can help with general Cash App questions right now. What specifically would you like to know about Cash App support?
1:08 Caller: I really need to speak to a live representative by phone, please. Could you connect me with someone?
1:16 Cash App: Please hold while I transfer you to a support team member. You may be offered a brief survey after this call. Please stay on the line.
1:31 Cash App: Calls are recorded for training and quality assurance.
1:35 Representative: Hi, thank you for calling Cash App support. This is [name removed]. How may I help you today?
1:39 Caller: Hi, thanks for taking my call. I'm putting together a consumer guide about customer service and had a few general questions about how people reach Cash App support by phone. Could I ask you those?
1:52 Representative: Give me a moment, okay?
1:57 Caller: Sure.
2:01 Representative: Let me just pull up my tools here on my end first. Give me a moment.
2:05 Caller: No problem.
[About 45 seconds of quiet.]
2:49 Representative: Thank you. Okay, so can you tell me your question? As long as I can answer that, and it's a general question, I can definitely answer that.
2:58 Caller: Great. One, what's the fastest way for someone to reach a live person by phone? Two, can Cash App call someone back instead of waiting on hold, and how does that work? And three, what are the phone support hours? And if you know, what should a caller have ready before they call in?
3:20 Representative: Okay, so first is that you want to know how people can reach us. They can give us a call back on our phone number, which is, so that they can talk to us. Give me a moment. 800-969-1940. And the number two is, if the customer, we can give us a call back to the customer if they ask for that, especially when there's a long queue. There's a prompt on the screen that is asking them to request a call back instead of waiting on hold for a long time, so that once we are available, we will give them a call back. And then the third one is, our work hours, Cash App support are available from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Eastern time every day.
4:15 Caller: Perfect, thank you. And just so I can share good guidance, what should someone have ready before they call in, if they're an existing user?
4:27 Representative: We're just going to ask for their account information. That's all that they need to prepare so that we can get their account and verify their account and help them.
4:40 Caller: Gotcha.
4:41 Representative: Just make sure that they have their number and name.
4:45 Caller: Okay, that's helpful. Thank you. And just one more thing. How can people tell a real Cash App call or message from a scam? Does Cash App ever call customers first, for example?
5:03 Representative: By recognizing the phone number, because we only have one number, which is the 800-969-1940. And if they receive a call or message from another number, claiming that they are a Cash App, they should immediately hang up the call because that is not, especially not a Cash App. And also regarding if we call a customer, we only give a call to a customer if they are the one requesting it. We don't call them if they didn't request it at all.
5:31 Caller: That's great to know. Thank you for walking me through all of that.
5:34 Representative: Like, for example, today they gave us a call.
5:39 Caller: Thank you for walking me through that. I appreciate it.
5:41 Representative: Is there anything else? Do you have any more questions or concerns?
5:43 Caller: No, that was all. Thanks again. Have a good one.
5:49 Representative: If there's nothing else, I will be ending this call. Thank you so much for calling Cash App Support. Have a great day and goodbye.
5:55 Caller: Thanks, bye.
