Furniture refinishing cost varies with the piece and the work included. Dale's in Saint Paul publishes a dining chair range of $90 to $200, while Murphy's in Salem lists $275 to $350 for stripping and refinishing a chair. We checked three official shop pages on October 7, 2026. Use their prices to frame a request, then have your AI assistant find local shops, confirm the work they accept and collect comparable estimates. No phone price was obtained for this guide.

Use an AI agent to get furniture refinishing quotes #

Supply real measurements and describe uncertain materials as uncertain. After the calls, approve the photos and recipient before your assistant sends an estimate request through an available email or messaging tool. A shop that requests photographs has given you a next step, not a confirmed price.
What should you send for an accurate estimate? #
Prepare a small photo set showing the whole piece, each damaged area and any maker's label. Include the top and base of a table, the drawers of a dresser, and the number of matching chairs. Give dimensions and say whether you want an existing color matched or a different appearance.
Ask each shop to quote the same scope. “Refinish my table” leaves room for different assumptions about its underside, legs and removable leaves. Note whether the furniture can be delivered by you, whether pickup involves stairs, and your latest acceptable return date.
Keep a request checklist beside the photos: surfaces, finish, visible damage, dimensions, collection arrangements and deadline. That makes followup calls more useful than repeatedly asking for a generic starting price.
Is stripping included in the price? #
Check the column heading before comparing numbers. Murphy's lists dining tables at $400 to $500 for stripping alone and $975 to $1,275 for stripping plus refinishing. It also lists table leaves separately at $100 to $175 each for the complete process. Those are different scopes, even within one shop's price list.
Ask whether your estimate covers removal of the existing finish, the chosen color, protective finish, hardware removal and reassembly. Request a separate allowance for damage discovered after stripping. Have the shop explain how it will obtain approval if that allowance changes.
Repair, refinishing or reupholstery? #
Describe the problem before requesting a process. Ask whether a damaged area can be repaired locally, whether the whole surface needs refinishing, and how closely a repaired area can match. Do not let an assistant assume that every scratch requires stripping the entire piece.
Material identification matters. Weathersby says it works with solid wood and suitable veneer, while laminate and particle board generally need a different approach. Ask the shop to assess your piece rather than treating a photograph as conclusive. Weathersby material guidance

Finding a refinishing subcontractor for a business #
For recurring work, add capacity and handoff questions to the prompt. Ask whether the shop accepts projects from other businesses, which finishing methods it offers, what information it needs for each estimate, and who coordinates collection and delivery.
Request the next available start date separately from the time needed in the workshop. Ask whether the shop can approve a sample before processing several matching pieces. Record any minimum order, payment terms and responsibility for transport damage in the written proposal.
Your assistant's deliverable should be a shortlist of suitable shops with documented next steps. Compare the complete estimate and finish requirements before assigning a job. A published range, a helpful phone answer and an approved work order are three different stages of that decision.
