Dog teeth cleaning cost, three clinic calls with different prices and inclusions

Dog teeth cleaning cost depends on what the clinic includes. On October 7, 2026, we called three Houston area clinics: Houston Humane Society quoted cleaning from $250 plus a required $50 consultation, Houston Pet Dental quoted a $519 base package, and Chewy Vet Care Meyerland quoted a $705 to $755 base package. These are local starting prices from general inquiries, not national averages or final estimates for a particular dog.

The most useful finding was the difference in coverage. Houston Pet Dental included bloodwork and dental X rays in its base price. Chewy included dental X rays but charged separately for bloodwork. Houston Humane Society said it did not offer X rays. Comparing the advertised number alone would miss those differences.

Compare the three dental cleaning quotes

All phone answers below were obtained with call4me on October 7, 2026. We did not supply a pet profile, book care or authorize treatment. The full recordings and pricing excerpts appear below.

Clinic Cleaning price quoted Consultation or exam What staff said was included Extra costs or gaps
Houston Humane Society Veterinary Clinic Starts at $250 Required $50 dental consultation, separate Cleaning and what the representative described as sedation Bloodwork, extractions and medication extra; X rays not offered
Houston Pet Dental, Spring $519 base Complimentary consultation Bloodwork, catheter, anesthesia time, cleaning, X rays and polishing Larger dogs can cost more; individual extras priced after assessment
Chewy Vet Care Meyerland $705 to $755 base About $85 for the exam, separate Dental cleaning with anesthesia and X rays Exam, bloodwork and extractions additional

Houston Humane Society's standard starting fees add up to $300 before extras. Chewy's quoted dental range plus the $85 exam adds up to $790 to $840 before bloodwork and other extras. Those are calculations from the stated fees, not complete treatment estimates. None of the calls established every possible charge for an individual pet.

The clinics' published pages provide a second source for the headline fees: Houston Humane Society dental care, Houston Pet Dental's consultation page and Chewy Meyerland services and pricing. Check the specific location when requesting your own quote.

Have your AI agent compare prices near you

If your AI assistant already helps with your calendar and errands, give it the research and phone calls together. Connect call4me through the Claude Code guide or Codex guide, then use this prompt:

Compare dental cleaning options near [city or ZIP code] for my [dog or cat, age, breed and weight]. Check official clinic websites first, then use call4me to call up to [number] clinics for missing details. Ask for the current base price, required consultation fee, and whether anesthesia, monitoring, dental X rays, bloodwork, extractions and medication are included or charged separately. Ask how I can obtain an itemized written estimate, how long it is valid, and the next available consultation within [dates]. Return a table with the clinic, quote date, source, included services, extra fees, availability and unanswered questions. Bring questions about suitable care back to the veterinary team. Do not book, pay or authorize treatment yet.

The goal is an estimate you can compare and a clear next step. Ask the assistant to mark unanswered questions explicitly. Once you choose a clinic, give it permission to book the consultation with your actual pet details and available dates. Our vet appointment guide shows a real booking call and the location, arrival and pickup details worth confirming.

Why the cheapest starting price may not cover the same care

Ask for a list of services before choosing by price. In these calls, the largest differences were whether bloodwork was included, whether dental X rays were available, and whether an exam was charged separately. Larger dogs could also cost more at Houston Pet Dental because of additional anesthesia time.

These are consequential differences to discuss with a veterinarian. AAHA's dental guidance describes a comprehensive examination under anesthesia and dental radiographs as part of evaluating and treating the mouth. Its radiography guidance recommends images of the entire mouth for dental patients. A phone quote does not establish whether a particular package is appropriate for your pet.

The Houston Humane Society representative used the word “sedation,” while the clinic's website describes dental exams under anesthesia. We have preserved that wording rather than deciding what protocol the clinic uses. Ask its veterinary team to clarify the procedure and imaging arrangements before booking treatment.

How much does cat teeth cleaning cost?

Houston Humane Society explicitly confirmed the same $250 starting cleaning fee and separate $50 consultation for dogs and cats. The final estimate depends on the examination and required services. Staff said bloodwork, extractions and medication cost extra.

Houston Pet Dental's published consultation page covers both dogs and cats and lists the $519 procedure. Our call confirmed the base package but did not separately ask for a cat price. The Chewy call also did not establish separate dog and cat rates. Give your assistant the species when requesting a quote rather than assuming every general price applies identically.

Use the same comparison prompt for a cat, including the cat's actual age and weight. Let the veterinarian determine the examination, testing and treatment needed.

How do you get an itemized dental estimate?

All three clinics directed us to an examination or consultation for an individual estimate. Houston Pet Dental said it provides an itemized list at the complimentary assessment. Houston Humane Society said its $50 consultation establishes the dental requirements and total. Chewy said the doctor discusses the case and provides a quote during the exam.

Ask your assistant to collect the appointment fee, what records the clinic needs, and how you will receive the estimate. Ask which charges are fixed, which depend on findings, and how the clinic will contact you before additional work. Keep the consultation booking separate from permission for treatment.

Availability also matters. Houston Pet Dental said it was booked until January during our October 7 call; it did not state the year. Houston Humane Society mentioned $60 off dental cleaning during October, but we did not establish eligibility or other conditions. Neither detail should be treated as a current offer or available slot without checking again.

How much is the vet visit before the cleaning?

Chewy Meyerland quoted about $85 for the exam alone, excluding tests, vaccines and medication. Houston Humane Society's $50 fee was specifically for the dental consultation. Houston Pet Dental's initial dental consultation was free. These are different visit types, so ask what appointment the quoted fee covers.

If you also need routine care, have your assistant request that exam price separately. For a different specialist task, our veterinary behavior consultation call shows how to ask about a consultation fee and availability.

Listen to the Houston Pet Dental call

The recording lasts about 2 minutes 23 seconds. Staff names are muted; the original timing, voices and hold remain. This and the other calls below were general pricing inquiries, with no appointment booked.

Read the Houston Pet Dental pricing excerpts

These excerpts use approximate timestamps and were checked against independent automatic transcriptions of the recording and public export. No human listening verification is claimed. The spoken “five nineteen” is written as $519, consistent with the clinic's published price.

0:14 Representative: Absolutely. So $519 is our base price. If they're a bigger dog, the price might go up just because it's more time under anesthesia.

0:27 Representative: Blood work, catheter, and anesthesia time, cleaning, X rays, polish.

0:41 Representative: Yes, absolutely. However, we are booked out until January.

That last answer followed the question about whether the initial consultation was free. After a hold, the representative confirmed an itemized list of expected expenses would be provided at the complimentary assessment.

Listen to the Houston Humane Society call

The recording lasts about 4 minutes 14 seconds, including the phone menu and hold. The fee answer begins around 2 minutes 39 seconds. Staff names are muted.

Excerpts were checked against independent automatic transcriptions of the source and export. Timestamps are approximate.

2:39 Representative: So we require a consultation of $50, and they can start at $250 and up, depending on the grade and requirements needed for the patient.

3:15 Representative: The cleaning is just for the sedation and cleaning. That's not including extractions, medications. We don't offer X ray services.

3:35 Representative: And then if there's anything like blood work needed, medications, extractions, it will be all extra.

The representative confirmed the same base fees for dogs and cats and said the estimate is provided during the consultation. The clinical wording and imaging limitation are discussed above.

Listen to the Chewy Meyerland call

The recording lasts about 4 minutes 34 seconds. Staff checked the package inclusions during a hold, then returned with an answer. The staff name is muted.

Excerpts were checked against independent automatic transcriptions of the source and export. Timestamps are approximate.

0:46 Representative: So for the exam fee, that is going to be around a baseline of $85.

0:56 Representative: But it will be a baseline of $705 to $755.

The second answer refers to dental cleaning. After checking the package, staff confirmed its inclusions:

3:18 Representative: So yes, that does include the anesthesia and X rays as well.

4:12 Representative: During that exam, the doctor can kind of discuss everything and then go ahead and give you a quote for that dental as well.

The intervening conversation confirms that the exam, bloodwork and extractions are additional, and that the $85 exam excludes tests, vaccines and medication.

How we checked these prices

We made five calls on October 7, 2026, reaching staff at three clinics. The first Houston Pet Dental attempt produced no answer; the first Houston Humane Society attempt reached the wrong department. The successful retries and Chewy call are the recordings above. We checked each recording against two independent automatic transcriptions and compared headline prices with the clinics' official pages.

This is a small local sample about obtaining and comparing estimates. We did not test the clinics' care or obtain a final treatment plan. Use the dated answers to decide what your assistant should ask, then request an estimate for your own pet.
