AAA insurance customer service: the phone number and how to reach a person
AAA is run by regional clubs, so the number depends on where you live. We called the AAA Mountain West Group insurance line, reached a person in under a minute and a half, and asked about quotes, membership and claims. Here is the phone tree and the full 3 minute recording.
The short answer: there's no single AAA insurance phone number. AAA is a group of regional clubs, and aaa.com doesn't publish a number. Its club finder says: "Enter your ZIP code to be directed to your local Club's website." Your club's site has its own phone numbers.
We called AAA Mountain West Group (formerly AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah), which serves Alaska, Arizona, Northern California, Montana, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming. Its contact page lists:
| What you need | Number | Hours (as listed) |
|---|---|---|
| Auto & Home Insurance New Policy Quotes & Sales | 877-323-4222 | Monday to Friday 7 am to 9 pm, Saturday and Sunday 8 am to 6 pm (no time zone given) |
| Claims, changes to an existing policy, Member Service Center | 800-922-8228 | "AAA Claims Phone Number Available 24/7" |
| Member services | 800-564-6222 | Monday to Friday 8 am to 10 pm MST |
If you live somewhere else, your club has different numbers. Use the ZIP code finder at aaa.com to get to your club's site.
On the quote line, this got us to a person:
- Call 877-323-4222. The menu offers English (press 1) or Spanish (press 8).
- At the main menu, choose "To become a AAA member or obtain an insurance quote, please press 4."
- Enter your ZIP code when asked: "To best direct your call, please enter your zip code."
A live person (not a voice assistant) answered "Thank you for calling AAA Insurance" 1 minute 24 seconds into the call. He told us:
- Anyone can get a quote. "Anybody can get a quote. That's no problem."
- You have to be a AAA member to start a policy. "To start a policy, you do have to be a AAA member, though."
- A phone quote takes about 10 minutes for one driver and one car, and "15, 20 minutes" for multiple drivers and vehicles.
- Have ready: the name and date of birth of each driver, the address where the vehicle is registered and kept, the coverages you want, and driver history.
- The claims line is open 24/7. "They would just call that department." That matches the contact page, which lists 800-922-8228 as "Available 24/7".
We called on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at about 2:17 pm Mountain time, with call4me asking the questions. This page is what we heard.
Listen to the call #
The whole call, 2 minutes 55 seconds. Four short silences (under half a second each) cover my last name and the representative's first name, which comes up three times.
Key presses don't show up in the recording, so the menu choices and the ZIP code happen in the quiet gaps.
Jump to a moment:

The AAA insurance phone tree, step by step #
This is the AAA Mountain West Group quote line. Other clubs' menus may be different.
- Call 877-323-4222. "Thank you for calling AAA. Let us help you outsmart life. For English, press 1. Para español, oprima 8."
- A survey notice plays. "Should you be selected to receive our satisfaction survey, via a text message from AAA."
- The main menu.
- "If you know your party's extension, press 1."
- Smart home security systems and services: press 7.
- "For roadside assistance, please press 2."
- "For billing, claims, or changes to your policy, press 3."
- "To become a AAA member or obtain an insurance quote, please press 4."
- "To book or make changes to your travel plans, please press 5."
- "To best direct your call, please enter your zip code." We entered 89501, a Reno, Nevada ZIP code in the club's area, only to get routed.
- The survey notice plays again, then the line rings once.
- A person answers. "Thank you for calling AAA Insurance. My name is [name removed]. How can I help you?" That was about 25 seconds after the ZIP code prompt, with no hold message.
Our call log doesn't record key presses, so we can't show which keys our caller pressed. The menu went from the main menu to the ZIP code prompt, and the person who answered said "AAA Insurance", which fits option 4.
What to have ready #
From the representative:
- The name and date of birth of each driver.
- The address where the vehicle is registered and kept.
- The coverages you want.
- Driver history.
- Your ZIP code, for the phone menu.
- About 10 minutes for one driver and one car, or 15 to 20 minutes for more.
You can get a quote without being a member. To start the policy, you'll need to be a AAA member.
How we made this recording #
call4me is a phone for your AI agent: your agent (Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT) tells it what to get done and it makes the call. For this one, the brief was to reach a person on the AAA Mountain West Group quote line and ask three general questions: whether you need to be a member to get a quote or a policy, how long a phone quote takes and what it needs, and how claims work.
A few things worth knowing:
- Our caller talked to the recording. At 0:11 it said "Hi, I'm Nick [last name removed]'s assistant" while the phone menu was playing, before a person was on the line. It also said "Hmm" twice during the menu. The menu kept going either way.
- The ZIP code was ours, for routing only. When the menu asked for a ZIP code, our caller asked us, and we gave it 89501 (Reno, Nevada).
- AAA ended the call. After our caller said thanks and bye, the representative said "Have a good day" and hung up.
Have your agent make this call #
If you use call4me, paste this into your agent. The number is for AAA Mountain West Group. If your club is different, look up its number first with the ZIP code finder at aaa.com.
Call AAA Mountain West Group insurance at 877-323-4222. Press 1 for English, then press 4 to become a member or get an insurance quote. Enter my ZIP code, [your ZIP code], when asked. Ask the representative for an auto insurance quote for [drivers, with names and dates of birth] and [vehicles], kept at [address]. Ask what it would cost to become a AAA member before starting a policy. Don't buy a policy or a membership, and don't give out payment details.

The transcript follows the recording. "Caller" is the call4me agent. The representative's first name and my last name are silenced in the audio and shown in brackets here. Key presses aren't audible, so they're noted in brackets.

0:11 Caller: Hi, I'm Nick [last name removed]'s assistant, calling with a quick question about auto insurance quotes.
0:16 AAA: We'd like to also thank you in advance for your feedback. Should you be selected to receive our satisfaction survey, via a text message from AAA.
0:25 AAA: If you know your party's extension, press 1. Did you know that AAA now offers smart home security systems and services? To find out more, press 7. For roadside assistance, please press 2. For billing, claims, or changes to your policy, press 3. To become a AAA member or obtain an insurance quote, please press 4. To book or make changes to your travel plans, please press 5.
0:54 Caller: Hmm.
[A key press isn't audible. The next prompt fits option 4.]
0:59 AAA: To best direct your call, please enter your zip code.
1:05 Caller: Hmm.
[Caller enters the ZIP code 89501 on the keypad.]
1:09 AAA: We'd like to also thank you in advance for your feedback. Should you be selected to receive our satisfaction survey, via a text message from AAA.
[The line rings.]
1:24 Representative: Thank you for calling AAA Insurance. My name is [name removed]. How can I help you?
1:28 Caller: Hey, [name removed]. Quick question. Do you have to be a AAA member to get an auto insurance quote or policy, or can anyone get one?
1:38 Representative: Anybody can get a quote. That's no problem. To start a policy, you do have to be a AAA member, though.
1:45 Caller: Oh, okay, got it. Thanks. And roughly how long does it take to get a quote over the phone, and what kind of info do you need?
1:54 Representative: Is this for car insurance?
1:57 Caller: Yeah, just a general question about the car insurance quote process.
2:02 Representative: Sure. For one driver, one car, about 10 minutes. Multiple drivers, multiple vehicles, you know, figure 15, 20 minutes, depending on what we look at.
2:12 Caller: Okay, that helps. And what info would I need to have handy for that?
2:18 Representative: So basically, we would just be looking for the name and date of birth of each driver, the address where the vehicle is registered and kept, and then the coverages and driver history, basically.
2:31 Caller: Right, that makes sense. And if someone needed to file a claim, how would they do that? And is the claims line open 24-7?
2:41 Representative: Yeah, the claims line is 24-7, and they would just call that department.
2:48 Caller: Perfect. That's all I needed. Thanks so much, [name removed]. Bye.
2:52 Representative: Have a good day.
[AAA hangs up.]
