AAA tow reimbursement: what AAA Northeast asks for, from a real call
A call4me customer paid for a tow out of pocket and wanted AAA to pay it back. Their assistant called AAA Northeast's reimbursement line, reached a person in 1 minute 8 seconds. Two days earlier it had called the tow company twice to get the receipt in the right name. Here is what each call settled, what it didn't, and all three recordings.
The short answer: for an AAA tow reimbursement from AAA Northeast, you mail a paper request, not a phone claim. AAA Northeast's reimbursement page links a printable Roadside Assistance Reimbursement Request form. Send it with the original itemized paid receipt to:
AAA Northeast, Attn: Reimbursements, 110 Royal Little Drive, Providence, RI 02904
The form says to submit the original receipt within 30 days of the date of service, allows 3 weeks for processing, and says "For questions please call 1-844-765-6428." That is the number a call4me customer's assistant dialed on Thursday, October 15, 2026. A recorded announcement read out the same mailing instructions, and a live person answered 1 minute 8 seconds into the call. There was no menu to press through.
AAA is a group of regional clubs, so this only applies to AAA Northeast members. The membership on this call was based in New York, and the reimbursement address is still the Rhode Island one. If you're in another club, see our AAA Mountain West insurance call for how different the numbers are, and use your own club's site.
What the calls established
| Question | What we heard | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Where to mail an AAA reimbursement for tow | AAA Northeast, Attn: Reimbursements, 110 Royal Little Drive, Providence, RI 02904 | Recorded announcement on 1-844-765-6428, and the form |
| What to send | "Original paid receipt and a brief explanation on why the vehicle was towed", plus "member name, AAA membership number, and your contact information" | Recorded announcement |
| Invoice and card in an associate member's name, not the primary member's | "We only reimburse members that are listed on the policy, so if the invoice is under his name, that's fine" | Representative |
| Whether the associate was active on the membership | Not answered. The representative would not discuss account details without the member, or a named and authorized caller, on the line | Representative |
| Did the tow company do the tow | "Yes, we did" | Maui Island Towing, call 2 |
| Getting the invoice reissued in the member's name | The tow company asked for the spelling and an email, then said "it's already sent" | Maui Island Towing, call 3 |
| Deadline | 30 days from the date of service; the call did not get to the postmark question | Form only |
| How much AAA pays back | Not discussed on the call. The form says it's "based on the prevailing commercial rates for the region where the vehicle was disabled and the level of your membership coverage" | Form only |
The AAA tow reimbursement form, and what goes with it
The phone announcement and the form agree on the address. The form asks for more than the announcement does, so fill it in rather than writing a letter:
- Membership number, member's name, mailing address, contact phone and email.
- Whether a member was in the vehicle, the vehicle driver, type, year, make and model.
- Service date and time, type of service (tow, winch, flat tire and so on), towing mileage and amount requested.
- Whether you tried AAA first, and how: phone, text, AAA.com or the app, and the number you called from. The form says that "to be eligible for reimbursement members must be in good standing and have attempted to secure service from AAA first, unless AAA is legally prohibited from providing service on the roadway."
- Breakdown location, where the car was towed, the provider's name, your insurance carrier, the breakdown reason, and whether police were involved.
The receipt matters more than anything else. AAA Northeast's FAQ, attached to the form, says:
- "An itemized receipt on the garage letterhead is required." A credit card slip or an emailed payment confirmation is not enough: "If you only received a credit card or emailed receipt, please contact the provider for an itemized receipt."
- "The receipt should be in a member's name." A legible copy is accepted, though they may ask for the original.
- Accidents are not covered. "AAA memberships are not an automobile liability insurance contract. This is also not a contract for towing insurance." Accident costs go to your auto insurer.
That is why this customer's assistant also called the tow company: once to confirm the tow and get an itemized receipt, and once to have the paid invoice reissued in the member's name.
Calling the AAA Northeast reimbursement line
- Call 1-844-765-6428. A greeting says the call may be recorded, then: "You have reached the reimbursement department."
- An announcement reads the mailing instructions in full, including the Providence address and "Please specify attention reimbursements."
- "For all other questions, please remain on the line and a representative will assist you shortly. To hear this announcement again, please press one." Don't press anything.
- A person answered at 1:08: "AAA reimbursements, how can I help?" The first thing the representative asked was the city and state the membership is based in.
Have your membership number ready (the representative asked for the digits after the club number "on the card") and be ready to say who you are. When the assistant said it was calling on the member's behalf but had no name of its own to give, the representative said: "I can't verify if you would be eligible to speak regarding his account." The representative would still answer general questions about the process.

1:08 Representative: AAA reimbursements, how can I help?
1:11 Caller: Hi! Um, so, I had a few questions about an out-of-pocket tow reimbursement under a AAA Northeast membership. Um, I just wanted to make sure I'm understanding the process and what's needed.
1:24 Representative: Okay, what city and state is your membership in?
1:28 Caller: The membership is under [primary member's name muted], AAA Northeast Premier. The tow happened in Hawaii. The associate member is [customer's name muted].
1:39 Representative: So just the city and state, what was it?
1:42 Caller: Oh. Yeah, that's Maui, Hawaii.
1:48 Representative: I'm assuming that's where the breakdown location is, but what's the city and state for the membership? Where is it based out of?
1:56 Caller: Yeah, sorry, that's based in New York.
2:00 Representative: Okay, and the city?
2:02 Caller: It's [city muted].
2:04 Representative: Okay, thank you once again. Okay, and how can I help?
2:10 Caller: So, I've got a few specific questions about this tow reimbursement. First one, could you confirm that [customer's first name muted] is an active associate on [primary member's first name muted]'s AAA Northeast Premier membership and was covered as of October 11th, 2026?
2:26 Representative: Um, that's usually done through our membership department. Uh, let me see if I would have access to take a look at the membership itself. What's after the 240 on the card?
2:38 Caller: Okay, after the 240, it's [membership number muted].
2:48 Representative: [Digits muted]. What was the rest?
2:50 Caller: [Digits muted].
3:09 Representative: Looks like the system timed me out. I might need that again. Just bear with me a moment. Let me see if [unclear: it'll take, or I saved] the number.
3:16 Caller: Sure, yeah, no problem.
3:27 Representative: Okay, I'm sorry about that. It didn't look like I saved it. So [digits muted], and what was the rest?
3:32 Caller: Yeah, it's [membership number muted].
3:36 Representative: I'm sorry [unclear, man or ma'am], you're just going a little too fast. [Digits muted]
3:39 Caller: [Digits muted, over the representative repeating them]
3:50 Representative: Okay, one moment. Who am I speaking with?
3:57 Caller: I'm [customer's name muted]'s assistant calling on his behalf.
4:07 Representative: What was your name?
4:09 Caller: I'm [customer's name muted]'s assistant.
4:13 Representative: Okay, but what's your name?
4:17 Caller: I'm his assistant. I don't actually have a name to share.
4:23 Representative: I just want to see if there's authorization that we can speak in regards to his account. So if we don't have a name for you, I can't verify if you would be eligible to speak regarding his account. I only see him listed on this membership, so I can't really go over any membership details regarding if he's active or not.
4:46 Caller: Sure, yeah, that makes sense. Um, let me just see if I can get [customer's first name muted] to join.
5:00 Representative: Sure.
5:01 Caller: Okay, he's not available right now. Could you give him a call back, or we can just go over the general reimbursement rules without account details.
5:10 Representative: Oh, yeah, I can try to help you answer any other questions you may have.
5:14 Caller: Great, thank you. So, second question. The tow was paid on [customer's first name muted]'s own Amex, and the invoice is in his name, not the primary member's. Is that okay for reimbursement?
5:27 Representative: Yeah, um, he's a AAA member with that membership number, so, um, we only reimburse members that are listed on the policy, so if the invoice is under his name, that's fine.
5:40 Caller: Okay, good. Uh, third, the car was a rental that got disabled after hitting a rock on a paved state highway,
5:51 Representative: Hello?
5:52 Caller: Hi there! I was calling with a few questions about an out-of-pocket tow reimbursement under a AAA Northeast membership.
6:02 Representative: Okay.
6:03 Caller: Yeah, the membership is under [primary member's name muted]. The tow happened in Maui, and the associate member is [customer's name muted]. I just wanted to make sure I understand the process and what's needed.
6:18 Representative: Okay.
6:22 Caller: Uh, so, first question, could you confirm that [customer's first name muted] is an active associate on [primary member's first name muted]'s AAA Northeast Premier membership and was covered as of October 11th, 2026?
6:36 Representative: Uh, we've already advised that we can't release any personal information without the member on the policy.
6:44 Caller: Okay, got it. Uh, let me just see if I can get [customer's first name muted] to join, though. He may not be available.
[The recording ends at 6:55.]
Getting a receipt AAA will accept
AAA Northeast wants an itemized receipt on the garage's letterhead, in a member's name. Two days before the AAA call, the same assistant called the tow company, Maui Island Towing, at (808) 280-4234, the number dialed on both calls. The recorded greeting on that number says "Thank you for calling Maui Island Towing". We did not find an official website for the company to check the number against, so treat it as the number this customer used, not a verified listing.
The first call (1 minute 55 seconds) confirmed the tow and asked for an itemized receipt by email. The person who answered said "Yes, we did" and, after the address was spelled out, "Yep, I just emailed it over."

0:00 Phone system: Thank you for calling Maui Island Towing. Your call is now being connected.
0:06 Phone system: For better customer service, this call may be recorded.
0:09 Representative: [Unclear greeting]
0:17 Caller: Hi, this is [customer's name muted]'s assistant. I'm checking whether your company towed or recovered a disabled Fox or Allsave rental for him on October eleventh near Kipahulu, backside Route 31 area?
0:33 Representative: Yes, we did.
0:35 Caller: Okay, great. Would you be able to send an itemized receipt to his email? It's [email muted].
0:48 Representative: Um, hold on.
0:51 Caller: Sure, no problem.
1:02 Representative: What is the email?
1:05 Caller: [Email muted].
1:10 Representative: Can you spell it?
1:12 Caller: Sure, [spelling muted].
1:24 Representative: Okay. That was really fast, but, um
1:28 Caller: Uh-huh.
1:29 Representative: So it's [spelling muted]
1:38 Caller: Exactly.
1:47 Representative: Yep, I just emailed it over.
1:49 Caller: Perfect, thanks so much. Bye.
1:52 Representative: Thank you.
The second call (1 minute 54 seconds) asked to reissue the paid invoice in the customer's name, with the date and charges unchanged. The person who answered noted the existing name was "the person that paid for it", took the new spelling and an email, and said "it's already sent."

Tuesday, October 13, 2026, 2:59 pm Hawaii time. Complete recording with original timing. The customer's name, its spelling, the invoice number and the email address are muted. No human listening verification is claimed.
0:00 Phone system: Thank you for calling Maui Island Towing. Your call is now being connected.
0:06 Phone system: For better customer service, this call may be recorded.
0:14 Representative: Maui Island Towing.
0:16 Caller: Hi, I'm [customer's first name muted]'s assistant calling about a corrected paid invoice, number [invoice number muted], for the October eleventh Corolla tow.
0:29 Representative: Okay, what about it?
0:31 Caller: Just need the customer name corrected to [customer's name muted], date and charges all stay the same.
0:44 Representative: Um, well, that's the person that paid for it.
0:48 Caller: The payment
0:49 Representative: Um, but okay, so how do you spell it?
0:51 Caller: [Spelling muted].
0:59 Representative: [Spelling muted]
1:02 Caller: Yeah, that's right.
1:16 Representative: And what is the email address?
1:19 Caller: [Email muted].
1:28 Representative: So it's [spelling muted]
1:40 Caller: Yeah, that's it.
1:49 Representative: Yeah, it's already sent.
1:51 Caller: Perfect, thanks.
What these calls did not settle
- Whether the associate member was covered on the tow date. AAA Northeast would not say without the member, or a caller it could identify, on the line. The assistant tried to ring the customer in, and he didn't join.
- Whether a rental car, a breakdown in Hawaii, or the cause of the breakdown changes anything. The assistant started asking about the rental, then the call reset and ended before an answer.
- How much AAA would pay back, the postmark question, a representative name or a reference number. None came up before the recording ends. The amount rules and the 30 day deadline above come from the form, not the call.
- That the reimbursement was paid, or even filed. These calls gathered instructions and paperwork only.
- That the right emails arrived. On both tow company calls, the address read back by the employee did not match what the caller spelled, according to the saved call text and the source transcriptions, and the caller agreed anyway ("Exactly", "Yeah, that's it"). The recordings also don't show what was in the reissued invoice.
How we made this recording
call4me is a phone for your AI agent: your agent (Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT) tells it what to get done and it makes the call. The account owner approved publishing these calls. A few things to know about the caller's side:
- It had no name of its own to give, and that ended the account lookup. If you want account answers, be on the call, or give your assistant a way to put you on it.
- It read a long membership number too fast, twice, and the representative's system timed out in between.
- It started over in the middle of the call. After an unanswered attempt to ring the customer in, it re-introduced itself and asked the first question again, which the representative had already answered.
- It accepted wrong spellings on both tow company calls instead of correcting them.
For more recorded calls to big companies, see how long it takes to reach a human and the companies we've called. Hear the AAA call on its own on the examples page.
Have your agent make this call
Connect call4me to your agent through the Claude Code guide or the Codex guide. This is a suggested brief based on what these calls ran into. It is not what the customer used.
Call AAA Northeast's reimbursement line, 1-844-765-6428, about a tow I paid for out of pocket on [date]. Listen to the full announcement and stay on the line for a person; don't press anything. If they ask who you are, say you're calling for me and ring me in right away so I can confirm my identity; don't give the membership number until then, and read it slowly in small groups. Ask: am I listed on the membership and was I covered on [date]; does [rental car / location outside my home area / cause] affect eligibility; is a postmark within 30 days of the tow enough; and what rate they reimburse at. Spell back any email or name they read to you and correct any letter that's wrong. Get the representative's name and a reference number. Don't change the membership or agree to anything.
