Marina traffic court phone number, and how to pay a fine
A call4me customer's assistant called the Monterey County Superior Court traffic line in Marina to ask how a fine could be paid. Here is the phone tree, the 6 minute 54 second hold, what the clerk said about payments, and the full 13 minute recording.
The short answer: the Marina traffic court phone number is (831) 883-5300. Marina Traffic is the Monterey County traffic court, part of the Superior Court of California, County of Monterey, at the Marina Courthouse, 3180 Del Monte Blvd., Marina, CA 93933 (mail goes to P.O. Box 2010, Marina, CA 93933). The court's Marina Courthouse page and its traffic division page both list that number. Marina traffic court hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. It is the number our customer's assistant dialed.
To reach a clerk:
- Listen through the recorded notices (high call volume, Spanish on 7, online 60 day extensions).
- Press 9 at "For all other traffic inquiries, press nine to speak with a clerk." Press 1 only if you got a DMV notice for failure to appear or a license suspension over an unpaid fine; that goes to the Monterey County Revenue Division instead.
- Stay on the line through the English and Spanish hold messages.
A clerk answered 6 minutes 54 seconds into the call, on Friday, October 2, 2026, a little before 10 am Pacific. Her first question was "case or citation number".
What the clerk told a call4me customer's assistant about paying a Marina traffic court fine:
- No payments over the phone. "No, we're unable to process payments over the phone."
- Online or a personal check both work. Asked whether it had to be a cashier's check, she said "It can be a personal check or online," in US dollars.
- Only one amount was showing as due. She saw $233 for count one (speeding). The $485 bail the family expected for a trial by written declaration was marked "waived in court" on the form, so she said it didn't need to be paid right now.
- Paying one count does not close the case. "The case does not get closed out until everything is complete."

What this call did not settle
- Nothing was paid. The call was a question about how to pay. No payment was made or scheduled.
- One check or two was never answered. The assistant asked, and the clerk moved on to the trial by written declaration instead.
- The bail question is only what one clerk saw on one day. The family had been told about a $485 bail; the clerk said she saw no paperwork with that amount and read the form as waived. Her explanation also mixed up the counts at one point ("waived for the two hundred thirty three for count two"). The court's traffic page says a trial by written declaration normally requires full bail, so a waiver is case specific. If your case looks like this, confirm in writing before you rely on it.
- The online payment site, fees and mailing details weren't discussed on the call. The court's traffic page names its online payment portal (Visa, Mastercard and American Express, with a small nonrefundable convenience fee) and says to make checks payable to the Monterey County Superior Court, include your case or citation number, and never send cash. That comes from the website, not from the clerk.
- No identity check came up. The clerk looked the case up by case number and confirmed the case name. She did not ask who was calling beyond that.
Listen to the call
The recording lasts 13 minutes 2 seconds. Original voices and timing are kept, including the whole hold and three long quiet stretches (about 40 seconds to a minute each) while the clerk looked through the file. Four short silences cover the customer's name, the family names on the case, and the case number. Nothing else is muted or cut.
Key presses don't show up in the recording. The quiet after the menu ends is the caller pressing 9; the system then says "Please wait while we connect your call."
Jump to a moment:

- 0:21 Press 1 for the Monterey County Revenue Division (DMV notices and suspensions)
- 0:31 "For all other traffic inquiries, press nine to speak with a clerk"
- 0:39 "Please wait while we connect your call," then the English and Spanish hold messages
- 6:54 A clerk answers: "Marina traffic, do you have your case or citation number?"
- 7:32 The assistant asks about paying by card over the phone
- 7:43 "No, we're unable to process payments over the phone"
- 8:01 "It can be a personal check or online"
- 8:53 "Is he completing the trial by written declaration?"
- 9:07 "On the forms it says that it was waived"
- 10:38 "I see the two thirty three, but on the trial by written declaration form it says waived in court"
- 11:48 "You can send a personal check of the two hundred thirty three"
- 12:15 "It does not close out the case"

[Caller presses 9. Key presses are not audible.]
Phone system: Please wait while we connect your call.
Phone system: We are currently experiencing a high volume of calls. Your call is important to us and we are working to assist everyone as quickly as possible. Please stay on the line for the next available court representative. En este momento estamos recibiendo un alto volumen de llamadas. Su llamada es importante para nosotros y estamos trabajando para atender a todos lo más rápido posible. Por favor, permanezca en la línea para ser atendido por el siguiente representante disponible.
[Hold, about 0:43 through 6:54, retained in full. The same English and Spanish messages repeat throughout, with the caller saying "Sure," "Okay" and "No problem" between them.]
6:54 Representative: And this is Marina traffic. Do you have your case or citation number?
AI agent: Hi! This is [customer and case party names muted; the following word "assistant" may be clipped]. The case is [case number muted].
Representative: What's the case name under?
AI agent: [Case name muted].
Representative: Okay. So I have one here for speeding and the license?
AI agent: Yeah, that's right.
Representative: Okay. How can I help you?
AI agent: So [customer first name muted]'s trying to pay the amounts owed, and we wanted to ask if he can call in and pay the two hundred thirty three and the four eighty five by card over the phone today.
Representative: No, we're unable to process payments over the phone.
AI agent: Okay. If not by phone, can he pay it online or will a check be accepted? And does it have to be a cashier's check or can it be a personal check in US funds?
Representative: It can be a personal check or online.
AI agent: Okay, great. If he sends a check, should that be one check for seven eighteen, or two separate checks?
[About 40 seconds of quiet while the clerk looks at the case.]
Representative: Is he completing the trial by written declaration?
AI agent: Yeah, for the license charge. They said there's a four eighty five bail for that, and he just needs to get that paid.
Representative: On the forms it says that it was waived, that he doesn't need to pay it right now.
[A brief "Okay", speaker unclear, then about a minute of quiet.]
Representative: Hello?
AI agent: Right. The judge mentioned a two thirty three amount for the speeding fine, but the form later said four eighty five bail for the license charge.
Representative: I'm not seeing any paperwork that says those amounts. I see the two thirty three, but on the trial by written declaration form it says waived in court.
[About a minute of quiet.]
Representative: Okay. So you can send a personal check of the two hundred thirty three if you would like, in US dollars, for count one. But I'm only seeing that the bail amount was waived for the two hundred thirty three for count two. But for right now, for count one, it says two hundred thirty three. You can send in a check for that.
AI agent: Okay. And is that what would close out the speeding charge, leaving just the written trial?
Representative: It does not close out the case. The case does not get closed out until everything is complete.
AI agent: Okay. Gotcha.
Representative: Are there any other questions?
AI agent: No, that's it. Thank you so much.
Representative: You're welcome. Bye.
What to have ready before you call Marina traffic court
- Your case or citation number. It was the clerk's first question, before any greeting or name.
- The name the case is under. She asked for it next and used it to confirm the right case.
- The amounts on your paperwork, and which count each one belongs to. The clerk answered by count ("count one", "count two"), and what the family had been told didn't match what she saw.
- Whether you're doing a trial by written declaration. That decided which amount she treated as due.
- A way to pay online or a checkbook. The phone line can't take a card.
Calling between 8 am and 4 pm on a weekday is the only window the court lists. Expect a hold: this one was close to 7 minutes on a Friday morning. The menu's online 60 day extension notice is worth hearing if you only need more time and your citation doesn't require a court appearance.
