Alaska Airlines customer service: how to reach a person
We called Alaska Airlines reservations with general questions and no booking. A virtual assistant answered first, offered to connect us, and a live agent picked up 12 minutes 44 seconds in. Here's the phone tree, what we were told about hours, callbacks, change fees and the 24-hour rule, and the full 17 minute recording.
The short answer: the Alaska Airlines customer service number for reservations in the United States and Canada is 1-800-252-7522 (1-800-ALASKAAIR). Alaska's Contact us page lists it as the "Reservations / pre-flight questions department" with "Service hours: Available 24/7". A virtual assistant answers, not a person. Tell it what you need, and when it offers to connect you to reservations, say yes. A live agent answered 12 minutes 44 seconds into our call, after about 9 minutes 20 seconds on hold. The hold announcement had said about 9 minutes.
This got us to a person, with no booking and no Atmos Rewards account:
- Call 1-800-252-7522. The virtual assistant says "How can I help you today?"
- We asked for a reservations representative. It didn't transfer us. It asked: "Can you tell me what you're calling about so I can get you to the right person?"
- It answered our questions about hours, fees and callbacks itself, then asked: "Did you want me to connect you to reservations now to confirm for today?" We said yes.
- It asked for a first and last name, then: "One moment while I connect you to a team member." The wait estimate was about 9 minutes.
What the agent told us:
- Reservations is open 24 hours a day. "We're 24 hours a day." The virtual assistant said the same: "Reservations for pre-flight questions are available 24-7."
- Have your confirmation code ready. Without one, a name and travel date can work "if they're the passenger."
- Callbacks depend on the wait. "Our system automatically will do a callback option if it's required by our hold times." We weren't offered one.
- No fee to change or cancel a Main cabin ticket. "Well, we don't have any fees." A change can cost the difference in fare. If you cancel outside of 24 hours, "the value is issued as credit for future travel."
- The 24-hour rule covers all tickets. "All our tickets within 24 hours of booking, if you're not traveling within those 24 hours, are fully refundable back to the original form of payment."
We called on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at about 1:09 pm Eastern, with call4me asking the questions. This page is what we heard.
Listen to the call
The whole call, 17 minutes 2 seconds, including both holds. Three short silences, each under a second, cover the agent's first name and my last name (said twice). Nothing else is muted or cut.

The Alaska Airlines customer service phone tree, step by step
This is the menu as it played on October 22, 2026, calling 1-800-252-7522. It's all spoken. We didn't press any keys.
- Call 1-800-252-7522. "Welcome to Alaska Airlines. I wasn't able to locate an Atmos Rewards account associated with the information available, so I don't have your name at this time. Just so you know, we've introduced a new voice experience, and you're speaking on a recorded line with the virtual assistant for Alaska Airlines. Para español, oprima el dos. How can I help you today?"
- We asked for a reservations representative. "Just a moment. Sure. Can you tell me what you're calling about so I can get you to the right person?"
- We said we had general questions about hours and policies. It answered them itself (hours, fees, the 24-hour rule, callbacks), asking "Did that answer your question, or is there anything else I can help you with?" along the way.
- "Did you want me to connect you to reservations now to confirm for today?" We said yes.
- "Before I connect you with an agent, I need some information to share with our team to get you faster assistance. Could I get your first and last name?"
- "One moment while I connect you to a team member." A privacy notice and "all tickets are non-transferable, and baggage fees may apply." Then: "All of our representatives are assisting other customers. Your call will be answered in the order in which it was received. Your approximate wait time is 9 minutes."
- Hold music, with a credit card ad at 9:24, then a person: "Hi, this is [name removed] in Boise. Can I get your name?"
We only tried this as a caller without a booking. The assistant said that if you tell it what you need, "like change a flight or missing bag, I can get them to the right place quickly." We don't know whether a caller with a confirmation code gets a shorter path or a different queue.
If you're flying on Hawaiian Airlines, Alaska's Contact us page says: "For assistance regarding travel on Hawaiian Airlines, please visit the Hawaiian Airlines Help Center." We only called the Alaska number.
Other Alaska Airlines phone numbers
All from the same Contact us page, for the United States and Canada. We only called the first one.

Change and cancel fees on a Main cabin ticket
What we heard, from the virtual assistant and then the agent:
- No change or cancellation fee. The assistant: "For most Alaska Main and First Class fares, there are no change or cancellation fees." The agent: "Well, we don't have any fees."
- You pay any fare difference. The assistant: "If the new flight costs more, you'd just pay the fare difference, and if it costs less, you may get credit back depending on the ticket rules."
- Cancel after 24 hours and you get credit, not cash. The agent: "if you cancel outside of 24 hours, the value is issued as credit for future travel."
- Within 24 hours of booking, a full refund to your card, as long as the flight isn't within those 24 hours. The agent said this applies to "all our tickets."
- Saver fares are stricter. The assistant said Saver "may only be eligible for a 50% credit if you cancel at least 14 days before the first flight." Alaska's Saver fares page says the same: "Saver fares are eligible for a 50% credit if canceled at least 14 days before departure of the first flight on the ticket."
What to have ready
- Your confirmation code, if it's about a trip you booked. It's the first thing the agent named.
- The passenger's name and travel date, if you don't have the code. The agent said that works "if they're the passenger."
- Your first and last name for the virtual assistant. It asks before it transfers you, to "share with our team."
- Time. Our hold was about 9 minutes 20 seconds, and the agent put us on a second hold of about 2 minutes to check an answer.
Things that don't work
On October 22, 2026, with the virtual assistant:
- Asking for a representative straight away. It didn't transfer us. It asked what we were calling about.
- Asking for the fastest way to a person. "I can't help with strategies to bypass our phone system."
- Counting on a callback. The assistant said it couldn't promise one, and the agent said the system offers it only "if it's required by our hold times." Neither offered one on our call.
What did work was telling it our question, letting it answer, and saying yes when it offered to connect us.
How we made this recording
call4me is a phone for your AI agent: your agent (Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT) tells it what to get done and it makes the call. For this one, the brief was to reach a live Alaska Airlines reservations agent with six general questions for this guide, with no booking, confirmation code or loyalty number, and not to book, change or pay for anything.
A few things to know about our side of the call:
- It gave my name to the virtual assistant when asked for a first and last name, and introduced itself to the agent as my assistant.
- It didn't ask the agent the fastest way to a person. It had asked the virtual assistant, which declined to answer, and didn't bring it up again.
- It asked about a "main cabin" ticket, and its first try came out as "cabin change or cancellation fees." The assistant answered for Main and First Class fares.
- It didn't follow up on an unclear phrase. The agent's answer on change fees started "If you don't, to change it," before saying a change could cost the fare difference.
We kept the audio as it happened, apart from the three muted names. For other airlines, we've also called JetBlue customer service, Delta customer service and Southwest Airlines. For more phone trees and recorded calls, see the other companies we've called.
Have your agent make this call
If you use call4me, paste this into your agent:
Call Alaska Airlines reservations at 1-800-252-7522 (open 24/7). A virtual assistant answers. Tell it what I need: [your request, for example a change to my flight on (date), confirmation code ABC123]. If it offers to connect me to reservations, say yes, and give my name, [first and last name], when it asks. Stay on hold for a live agent, even if it's 10 minutes or more. Ask one question at a time: [your questions]. Don't book, change or cancel anything, or pay any fare difference, unless I've said to.

Thursday, October 22, 2026, about 1:09 pm Eastern. "Alaska" is Alaska Airlines' virtual assistant and its recordings, not a person. "Agent" is the live person. "Caller" is the call4me agent. The agent's first name and my last name are muted in the audio and shown in brackets here.
0:02 Alaska: Welcome to Alaska Airlines. I wasn't able to locate an Atmos Rewards account associated with the information available, so I don't have your name at this time. Just so you know, we've introduced a new voice experience, and you're speaking on a recorded line with the virtual assistant for Alaska Airlines. Para español, oprima el dos. How can I help you today?
0:23 Caller: Hi. Yeah, I'm just hoping to speak with a reservations representative, please.
0:31 Alaska: Just a moment. Sure. Can you tell me what you're calling about so I can get you to the right person?
0:38 Caller: Yeah, we're just putting together a general consumer guide about calling Alaska, and I had a few quick questions like hours and general policies.
0:49 Alaska: Let's check. Reservations for pre-flight questions are available 24-7. Did you want the hours for a different department, like post-flight guest care or Atmos Rewards?
1:03 Caller: Nah, the main reservations line is what I needed. And what's the fastest way for someone to reach a live agent by phone?
1:13 Alaska: I can't help with strategies to bypass our phone system, but if someone says what they need, like change a flight or missing bag, I can get them to the right place quickly. What are they calling about?
1:27 Caller: They just have a general question about cabin change or cancellation fees.
1:35 Alaska: Let's check. For most Alaska Main and First Class fares, there are no change or cancellation fees. If the new flight costs more, you'd just pay the fare difference, and if it costs less, you may get credit back depending on the ticket rules. Saver fares are more restricted. You can cancel for a full refund within 24 hours of purchase when travel is more than 24 hours away, and after that, Saver may only be eligible for a 50% credit if you cancel at least 14 days before the first flight. Did that answer your question, or is there anything else I can help you with?
2:12 Caller: That's really helpful, thank you. And when you're on the phone with reservations, does Alaska offer a callback instead of waiting on hold?
2:24 Alaska: I don't have a reliable system-wide promise I can make about callback availability. It can depend on the queue at the time you call. Did you want me to connect you to reservations now to confirm for today?
2:37 Caller: Sure, that would be great.
2:42 Alaska: Before I connect you with an agent, I need some information to share with our team to get you faster assistance. Could I get your first and last name?
2:50 Caller: It's Nick [last name removed].
2:56 Alaska: One moment while I connect you to a team member. Any personal data disclosed during this call will be processed according to Alaska Airlines' privacy notice, which can be located on our website. Please note that all tickets are non-transferable, and baggage fees may apply.
3:13 Alaska: All of our representatives are assisting other customers. Your call will be answered in the order in which it was received. Your approximate wait time is 9 minutes.

[Hold music.]
12:44 Agent: Hi, this is [name removed] in Boise. Can I get your name?
12:48 Caller: Hi, I'm Nick [last name removed]'s assistant. Thanks for taking the call. I just had a few general questions for a consumer guide we're putting together.
12:59 Agent: Okay.
13:03 Caller: First, what are your phone hours for reservations?
13:09 Agent: We're 24 hours a day.
13:12 Caller: Perfect. And when someone calls in, what should they have ready to make things go smoothly?
13:21 Agent: I may have to put you on a brief hold. I will be right back.
13:25 Caller: Sure, no problem.
[Hold music.]
15:21 Agent: Hi, thank you so much for holding.
15:23 Caller: Of course. Do you know what callers should have ready when they call in, like to help the agent find their trip faster?
15:31 Agent: A confirmation code.
15:34 Caller: Mm-hmm. And if they don't have that, is a name and travel date enough to look it up?
15:43 Agent: If they're the passenger.
15:46 Caller: Okay, great. And does Alaska offer callbacks instead of waiting on hold? And if so, how do you request one?
15:55 Agent: So it depends on how many people we have on hold and what our call times are. So our system automatically will do a callback option if it's required by our hold times.
16:07 Caller: Gotcha. Okay, and for a main cabin ticket, what are the fees to change or cancel?
16:13 Agent: Well, we don't have any fees. If you don't, to change it, there could be a difference in fare. To cancel, if you cancel outside of 24 hours, the value is issued as credit for future travel.
16:29 Caller: Okay, and how does the 24 hour cancellation policy work? Like, is it for all ticket types, and is the refund to the original payment method or as a credit?
16:41 Agent: So all our tickets within 24 hours of booking, if you're not traveling within those 24 hours, are fully refundable back to the original form of payment.
16:52 Caller: Great, that's exactly what I needed. Thank you so much for your help.
16:57 Agent: Okay, have a great day.
16:59 Caller: Thanks. Bye.
