Café Demi Teaneck: holding and paying for a dairy-free cake by phone

Two real calls to Café Demi in Teaneck held a dairy-free Pecan Maple cake, then paid for two by card and set up a same day Uber courier pickup.

Café Demi is at 1400 Palisade Ave., Teaneck, NJ 07666, and its number is (551) 501-2865. That is the number on the Café Demi's official website, and it is the number both calls below dialed. At the recorded menu, press 2 for the café. On both calls a staff member picked up about 34 seconds after the call connected.

On Friday, October 16, 2026, a call4me customer's assistant called Café Demi twice. The customer wanted a whole Pecan Maple dairy-free cake in New Milford, the next town over, that same day. The first call checked the price, asked about delivery and put a cake on hold. The second call, about an hour later, paid for two cakes by card and reconfirmed a courier pickup.

Café Demi hours and location

The official site lists one location, 1400 Palisade Ave. in Teaneck (next door to the therapy gym), with these hours:

Day Hours
Sunday to Thursday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Friday 8:00 am to three hours before Shabbat
Saturday Closed

The site also says Café Demi is fully kosher and certified by the RCBC. Neither call discussed kosher certification. Online orders go through the link on the site, and the phone menu says the same: "To place an order, please visit our website."

The Café Demi phone menu

  1. Call (551) 501-2865. A recording says "Welcome to Café Demi. To place an order, please visit our website at www.thecafedemi.com."
  2. "For hours and operations, dial 1."
  3. "For the café, please dial 2." Both calls pressed 2.
  4. "For catering inquiries, please email us at info at thecafedemi.com."

A person answered "Café Demi" right after the menu, about 0:34 into each recording. There was no queue message.

What the two calls established

Courier pickup Allowed. The courier "would just have to come inside and give us the name." Staff can't bring it out to the car
Hold Staff agreed to hold one cake under the customer's name
Payment On the second call, staff quoted $46.90 after tax for two cakes and took a card over the phone
Charge cap The assistant said the card would not take more than $48; staff agreed to run $46.90 and said "you're all set"
Pickup time Staff agreed an Uber courier would come in before 2:15 PM that day under the customer's name
Order number None. "It'll just be under the name." Staff said they would attach the receipt to the bag

What the calls did not establish

Listen to the Café Demi calls

Both recordings keep their original voices and full timing, including the menu and the hold. The customer's name, the staff member's first name and every card detail (number, expiration date, security code and billing zip code) are muted. The café's name, the town and the prices stay audible.

Call 1: price, delivery and a hold

The recording lasts 1 minute 33 seconds.

AI agent: [Breath and a sigh while the call is put through to the café.]

Representative: Café Demi.

AI agent: Hi! I'm calling for [customer name muted]. Do you have the Pecan Maple dairy-free cake available today? And what's the price?

Representative: We do, and it's twenty-two dollars.

AI agent: Oh, perfect. And do you happen to deliver to New Milford?

Representative: No, you would have to order on, like, Uber Eats or Grubhub and see if they would deliver there.

AI agent: Gotcha. If [customer first name muted] sent an Uber courier instead, could you hold one under [customer name muted] for, say, an hour while he confirms?

Representative: Yes, the Uber courier would just have to come inside and give us the name. We wouldn't be able to bring it out to them.

AI agent: That's no problem. Could you hold one under his name then?

Representative: Yes, could you repeat the name?

AI agent: Sure. [customer name muted].

Representative: Okay, no problem.

AI agent: Awesome. Thanks so much. Bye!

Representative: [Brief unclear goodbye.]

Call 2: paying by card and confirming the courier

The recording lasts 4 minutes 38 seconds, including a hold of almost two minutes.

AI agent: No problem. I'm pressing 2 for the café.

Representative: Café Demi. [Greeting partly unclear.]

AI agent: Hi! I'm calling to pay for two pecan maple whole cakes you're holding for [customer name muted]. Can I take care of that now?

Representative: Sorry, let me put you on a brief hold.

AI agent: Sure, no problem.

[Hold from about 0:51 to 2:42, retained in full. The line is nearly silent apart from faint periodic sounds.]

Representative: Okay, so the total for those two cakes is going to be 46.90 after tax. And whenever you're ready, I can take the card information.

AI agent: Yeah, that works. It's a card capped at 48. So the number is [card number muted].

[The representative's brief "mm-hmm" acknowledgements between the digit groups fall inside the muted span.]

Representative: Got it. And what's the expiration date?

AI agent: [card expiration muted]

Representative: [Brief acknowledgement.] What's the CVV?

AI agent: [card security code muted]

Representative: And what's the zip code for that card?

AI agent: [billing zip code muted]

Representative: Okay. And you said there was only 48 dollars for that card?

AI agent: Yeah, it won't take more than 48. Can you run it for the 46.90?

Representative: Yeah, of course. Yeah, then that's totally fine. Okay, one second. Okay, you're all set.

AI agent: Great! Thank you. Just to confirm, an Uber courier will come in to pick up under the name [customer name muted] before 2:15 today. Is that still good?

Representative: Yeah, that totally works.

AI agent: Nice! Do you have a receipt or order number for this?

Representative: It'll just be under the name [customer first name muted]. We can attach the receipt to the bag, so we'll have it.

AI agent: Perfect. What's your name, by the way?

Representative: [staff first name muted]

AI agent: Thanks so much, [staff first name muted]. Have a good one! Bye!

Representative: Thank you, too. Bye-bye.

Paying a café by phone for courier pickup

The useful part of these calls is the order of operations. The first call found out whether a courier pickup would work before anyone paid. Only after staff said a courier could come in and give a name did the second call hand over a card.

A few things made the second call go smoothly:

Card details read over the phone are sensitive. In this recording they are muted. If you have an assistant pay this way, a single use or low limit card keeps the risk small, and you should only give card details to a person at the business, never to a menu or voicemail.

Ask your assistant to order from Café Demi

Connect call4me to your assistant with the Claude Code guide or the Codex guide. This is a suggested brief, not the one the customer used:

Call Café Demi in Teaneck at (551) 501-2865 and press 2 for the café. Ask if they have [cake or item] today and what it costs. Ask whether an Uber courier can pick it up today before [time], and what the courier needs to say. If yes, ask them to hold it under [name]. Don't pay yet. Then tell me the price, the hold time and the pickup rules.

For a second call to pay, add the card details privately, a maximum charge, and an instruction to hang up without paying if the total is higher.

Hear both calls on the examples page. For another same day hold for pickup, see how an assistant got dress shoes held before a gala. For restaurant bookings, see how to make a restaurant reservation with your AI assistant.
