Fort Leonard Wood dental clinic: the oral surgery number, and how a referral gets there

A call4me customer's assistant called two Fort Leonard Wood dental lines about a surgery referral from Fort Leavenworth. Roll Dental Clinic sent it to the hospital, and the hospital clinic explained how referrals arrive and why this one wasn't there.

The short answer: oral surgery at Fort Leonard Wood is handled by the hospital dental clinic, which Fort Leonard Wood's official dental page lists as the Hospital Oral Maxillofacial Department, 573-596-0198, at General Leonard Wood Community Hospital, 4234 Illinois Ave. It's open Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., by appointment only. The Roll Dental Clinic (permanent party) is 573-596-0364, at 6958 Nebraska Ave, Building 1608, with sick call Monday to Friday 7 to 9 a.m.

Both numbers were answered by a person, with no phone menu, about a second after the call connected.

On October 8, 2026, a call4me customer's assistant called both lines to check on a surgery referral that a dental clinic at Fort Leavenworth was supposed to have sent about three weeks earlier. If it had arrived, the plan was to book the surgery for late January or February 2027. Here's what the two calls established:

The dialed numbers match what Fort Leonard Wood's official dental page lists for each clinic. That page refused automated requests when we checked on October 16, so we read it through the Internet Archive's June 2026 copy.

Both recordings keep their full original timing, including the pauses while the hospital staff member opened the patient's records. 0:01 Representative: Hospital Dental Clinic, this is [staff name muted]. Can I help you?

0:03 AI agent: Hi! I'm calling to see if you got a referral for [patient name and procedure muted] surgery. It should have come from Fort Leavenworth about three weeks ago.

0:18 Representative: Um... How did you send the referral?

0:22 AI agent: Uh, it was supposed to be sent over by the Fort Leavenworth Dental Clinic.

0:27 Representative: Okay, so how did they put it... Are you calling from Fort Leavenworth?

0:33 AI agent: Sorry, no, I'm his assistant. Calling to check if it came through.

0:38 Representative: Okay, so did you put it in the... How did he send it over?

0:45 AI agent: The clinic at Fort Leavenworth was supposed to send it to your oral surgery department.

0:52 Representative: Okay, um, usually I get the emails, and I don't have it. I don't... Um, I can give you my email and you can forward it to me, or do they use Dentrix and PowerChart?

1:06 AI agent: I'm not sure, but it was the Fort Leavenworth Smith Dental Clinic, if that helps.

1:14 Representative: Yeah, no, I've been dealing with Smith for the past five, six years, and I usually get the emails, and I don't have an email.

1:23 AI agent: Oh, okay. Is there a different way it could have come through?

1:31 Representative: Uh... The only other thing you could do is put it in the pool in PowerChart, if the provider knows how to do that.

1:41 AI agent: Okay.

1:42 Representative: Or they could email me.

1:46 AI agent: Okay, could I get your email so they can resend it?

1:50 Representative: Yes. It's [staff email address muted], short for civilian, at health dot mil, like short for military.

2:08 AI agent: Perfect. Thank you. I'll ask them to send it again.

2:21 Representative: Okay, the patient's assistant.

2:25 AI agent: Yes.

2:26 Representative: Okay, so I, yeah, I thought you were calling from the dental clinic. So in the past, because he's been my patient on and off for years, a couple years, they email it to me and the provider, and he hasn't said anything about it. He's not here right now. Unless they sent it yesterday, because he wasn't here yesterday. Do you know his DoD ID?

2:52 AI agent: Yeah. It's [DoD ID muted]

2:56 Representative: Wait, wait, wait, let me get in that program.

[About 11 seconds of quiet while the staff member opens the records program. Original timing retained.]

3:08 Representative: Okay, what is it?

3:10 AI agent: [DoD ID muted].

3:17 Representative: Okay.

[About 19 seconds of quiet while she looks up the record. Original timing retained.]

3:36 Representative: Okay, yeah, they can go ahead and forward that to me. I'm going to look at his notes. And what's your name and number? I can call you back if I have any questions.

3:45 AI agent: Sure. I'm his assistant, and the callback number is [callback number muted].

3:55 Representative: Okay. And what's your name?

3:58 AI agent: I'm his assistant.

4:01 Representative: Okay. All right.

4:03 AI agent: Thanks, great. Bye.

4:05 Representative: Bye.

Calling about a dental referral at Fort Leonard Wood

Start with the hospital line if the referral is for oral surgery. The first call shows that Roll Dental Clinic sends oral surgery questions there.

Have the patient's DoD ID ready. It's what the hospital clinic asked for before it looked up his notes. Know which clinic sent the referral, and when. Staff asked how it was sent before anything else, so it helps to find out from the referring clinic whether they emailed it or put it in PowerChart.

If the referral isn't there, ask who it should go to, then pass that to the referring clinic. In this call the hospital clinic wanted it emailed straight to its staff.

Ask your assistant to check a referral

Connect call4me to your assistant through the Claude Code guide or Codex guide. The following is a suggested brief, not the one the customer used.

Call the Fort Leonard Wood hospital dental clinic (oral surgery) at 573-596-0198, Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Central. Say you're calling for [patient name] about a referral for [procedure] that [referring clinic] sent around [date]. Ask whether it's on file. If it is, book the first opening in [date window] and confirm the date and time. If it isn't, ask how they want it sent (email or the PowerChart pool) and to whom, and write the details down for me. Give the patient's DoD ID only if they ask, and give my callback number [number]. If they ask for your name, say you're [name], calling on [patient name]'s behalf. Don't agree to anything beyond the booking.
