Skip hire Abingdon: seven firms quoted for a rubble skip

A call4me customer's assistant phoned seven Oxfordshire skip firms in one morning for a 4 or 6 yard skip of clean bricks and concrete on an Abingdon driveway. Here are the prices, hire periods, weight answers and delivery days, with all eight recordings.

The short answer: for a skip of clean bricks and concrete on a driveway in Abingdon (OX14), the best value this week came from Collard Group, Chilton, on 01235 831913: a 4 yard for £263 plus VAT or a 6 yard for £295 plus VAT, both with two weeks' hire, delivered "tomorrow" or, failing that, Wednesday. The cheapest 6 yard with VAT already included was Mick's Skips at £330 including VAT, 14 days, tomorrow or Wednesday. The cheapest 4 yard overall was Cotswold Skips at £260 all in, but its earliest delivery was next week and the hire is 7 days.

Those are phone quotes from Monday, October 12, 2026. A call4me customer's assistant made eight calls that morning to seven firms, asking each the same thing: the all-in price for a 4 and a 6 yard skip of clean rubble only, the weight limit, whether a full level load of rubble is allowed, the hire period and the earliest delivery. Every call reached a person. The delivery postcode is muted in the recordings; the area was Abingdon, OX14.

Skip hire Abingdon and Oxford prices, side by side

Prices are what staff said on the phone. Where a firm quoted "plus VAT", the VAT-inclusive figure in brackets is our arithmetic at the standard 20% rate, not a number anyone said on the call.

Cheapest skip hire near Oxford for rubble: what the calls showed

For a 4 yard skip this week, Collard was the strongest answer. At £263 plus VAT it was within a few pounds of Oxford Skip Hire's £260 plus VAT, came with two weeks' hire, and was the only 4 yard quote with a possible next-day delivery. Collard didn't give a tonnage. The answer was that both sizes can be filled with hardcore "but the skip does need to be level with the sides", with "no wet concrete".

For a 6 yard skip, Mick's Skips was the cheapest stated VAT-inclusive price at £330, with 14 days and tomorrow or Wednesday delivery. Collard's £295 plus VAT works out at £354, so Mick's is about £24 cheaper if both are accurate. Mick's would not give a weight: "that doesn't matter, you can only level fill the skip."

If you can wait a week, Cotswold Skips' 4 yard at £260 was the lowest all-in figure. On the follow-up call, the assistant asked whether £260 was "the final price, including VAT, delivery, collection, and hire". The answer was "Yes". It comes with seven days' hire and "roughly around about the four ton mark". Cotswold only does mini skips, 2 and 4 yard.

M&M Waste Solutions was the most expensive, but the most specific. It gave VAT-inclusive totals unprompted, tonnage for both sizes, and the longest hire periods: three weeks for a 4 yard and six weeks for a 6 yard.

Grundon didn't quote. It said its smallest skip is a 6 yard, that new customers need an account because "we're not doing sort of like cash skips at the moment", and that the price would come as a formal quote by email.

Mini skip hire in Oxford: 2, 3 and 4 yard options

Not every firm makes a 4 yard. If you want a mini skip for bricks and concrete, the calls turned up:

4 yard skip hire or 6 yard for bricks and concrete

Heavy rubble is the reason firms talk about fill level rather than volume. Every firm that answered said the same thing in different words: fill it level, not heaped. M&M said you "could just fill it up as long as it's level loaded". Collard: "level with the sides". Mick's: "can only be level filled". B&E said there's no overweight charge on a 3 or 6 yard, "but obviously if the lorry can't pick it up, it's too heavy".

The tonnage answers for a full level load of rubble were all estimates:

The two 4 yard answers and the two 6 yard answers don't agree. If your load is close to the limit, ask the firm you book with to write its limit on the booking.

Mick's also listed what can't go in its skips: "plaster board, fridges or deep freezers, mattresses, chairs with upholstery on."

The numbers we checked

The numbers dialed for M&M, Collard, Oxford Skip Hire, B&E and Grundon match the firms' own websites: mmskiphire.com lists 01865 880559, Collard's Abingdon skip hire page lists 01235 831 913 for its Chilton office (the same page advertises online prices from £225 for a 4 yard and £235 for a 6 yard; the phone quote for rubble to this postcode was higher), oxfordskiphire.co.uk lists 01235 856 305, B&E's site lists 01993 775571, and Grundon's Oxford depot page lists 01491 839 212 under Goulds Grove, Wallingford.

We couldn't find an official website listing the numbers dialed for Mick's Skips or Cotswold Skips. The Mick's number was answered with the firm's name. The Cotswold number is a mobile; the person said "you've got through to me on my truck phone", so we haven't published it.

AI agent: [mouth noise] Okay, I've got it. I'll stay on the line.

Representative: Good morning, M&M Waste Solutions.

AI agent: Hey, good morning! I was just calling to get a quote for a skip on a private driveway in Abingdon.

Representative: What's the postcode?

AI agent: It's OX14 [rest of postcode muted].

Representative: And what size skip was it for?

AI agent: We're looking at either a 4 or 6 yard skip for clean rubble only, bricks and concrete.

Representative: So for a four yarder it would be 328 pounds plus VAT, which makes it 393 pounds 60. For a six yard it'd be 378 pounds plus VAT, which makes it 453 pounds 60.

AI agent: Mm. Okay, thanks. And that includes delivery, collection,

Representative: Yes

AI agent: and disposal, yeah?

Representative: Yeah, that's correct.

AI agent: Perfect. What's the maximum weight in tonnes for each if it's just that kind of inert material?

Representative: Um, it's probably about three tonne, um, in a four yard, four tonne in a six yard.

AI agent: Gotcha. And do you allow it to be filled right up with heavy rubble like that, or is there a fill limit?

Representative: For them two sizes it is a, you could just fill it up as long as it's level loaded.

AI agent: Okay. What's the hire period that's included?

Representative: For a four yard it's three weeks, for a six yard it's six weeks.

AI agent: Okay. And what's your earliest delivery window for that postcode?

Representative: Um, for that postcode we'd be looking at Wednesday for the six yard and Thursday for the four yard.

AI agent: Great, that's really helpful. Thank you. I'll pass that along.

Representative: Alright, perfect. Thank you. Bye.

AI agent: Thanks again. Bye. Bye.

AI agent: Hmm. Hi!

Representative: Good morning, Collards.

AI agent: Hi! I'm looking for a quote for a skip hire to be dropped off at a driveway in OX14. Could someone help me with prices, please?

Representative: Yeah, do you want an account or will you be paying by card?

AI agent: Uh, just a card payment, please.

Representative: Okay, so what's the full postcode for delivery, please?

AI agent: OX14 [rest of postcode muted].

Representative: And what size skip is it you're looking for?

AI agent: Um, could I get prices for both a four yard and a six yard? It's for clean rubble, just bricks and concrete.

Representative: Just rubble. Okay, no problem. And you said it's going onto a driveway, didn't you?

AI agent: That's right.

Representative: Yeah, so a four yard is two six three plus VAT.

AI agent: Okay.

Representative: And a six yard is two nine five plus VAT, and you get those for two weeks included in the price.

AI agent: Oh, great. Okay. Um, and just to check, what's the max weight in tonnes for each one when it's just rubble?

Representative: The skip would need to be level. So you can fill both of those skips with hardcore, um, but the skip does need to be level with the sides.

AI agent: Gotcha. Yeah, so level with the sides is fine. And, uh, that means bricks and concrete are allowed in there?

Representative: Yep, just no wet concrete. Has to all be obviously solid.

AI agent: Got it. And what's your earliest delivery window for that postcode? [Overlapping:] Okay, that's all I needed.

Representative: Uh, we could put it on the screen. Yeah, if it's not delivered tomorrow, it'll be delivered on Wednesday.

AI agent: Perfect, that's great. Thanks for your help. Bye!

Representative: Okay. Alright, thank you. Bye bye.

Representative: Hello, Oxford Skip Hire, [staff name muted] speaking.

AI agent: Hi, I'm looking for a quote for a clean rubble skip in Abingdon, on a private driveway, for OX fourteen [rest of postcode muted]. Could I get a price for a four yard and a six yard, just for bricks and concrete?

Representative: The four yard is two sixty plus VAT and the six yard is three hundred plus VAT.

AI agent: Okay, great, thank you. And what's the earliest delivery window for each of those?

Representative: That will be Wednesday.

AI agent: Perfect. And can you tell me the weight limits and whether we can do a full level load of just rubble for each size?

The recording ends here, before any answer.

Representative: Good morning, B&E.

AI agent: Hi! I was hoping to get a quick quote for a mini or midi skip. Just for clean brick and concrete.

Representative: A mini skip?

AI agent: Yeah! So, it'd be for a private driveway.

Representative: Yeah, where's it going to?

AI agent: In Abingdon, [postcode muted].

Representative: Okay. Okay, uh, a six yard skip would be 330 plus VAT.

AI agent: Okay.

Representative: And a mini skip, uh, would be 230 plus VAT.

AI agent: Gotcha! And that's for only clean bricks and concrete rubble, right?

Representative: It is, yeah.

AI agent: Perfect! And uh, what's the earliest you could deliver each size to that postcode?

Representative: Uh, Thursday.

AI agent: Okay! And what's the weight allowance for a full, level load of that kind of heavy rubble, or rather the maximum tonnage?

Representative: Uh, I think you can usually get about six ton, I would think, but um, it's difficult to say without seeing exactly what's going in it. I know it's rubble, but I would say a maximum of six ton.

AI agent: Okay! And for the smaller one?

Representative: I think that's probably about three, but again, I'm taking a rough guess.

AI agent: Mm. Okay! And how long's the standard hire for each?

Representative: Two weeks. Two weeks.

AI agent: Gotcha! And is there any flexibility on that if needed?

Representative: If you wanna give us a ring if you need it for slightly longer, then, uh, just give us a ring.

AI agent: Okay! Are there any extras or surcharges for those sort of items?

Representative: Depending on how much longer you would need it for.

AI agent: Okay, yeah! Thanks.

Representative: Um, I mean, if you want it for another few weeks, then it would be twenty pound a week.

AI agent: Alright! Perfect. And what would the overweight charges be?

Representative: Uh, there is no overweight on a three yard or a six yard. It's when you go up to a 12 yard. But obviously if the lorry can't pick it up, it's too heavy. [laughs]

AI agent: Sure. Okay. And you wouldn't happen to do a four yard option by any chance, would you?

Representative: We don't, I'm afraid. No, we only do three yards or sixes.

AI agent: No problem! Thanks so much!

Representative: Okay, thank you.

AI agent: Bye!

Representative: Bye bye.

Representative: Good morning, Mick's Skips.

AI agent: Good morning! I was just wondering if you do skips for clean brick and concrete rubble in Abingdon?

Representative: Yes.

AI agent: Okay, great. Could I get an indicative quote for a four and a six yard skip on a private driveway, please? Just the final...

Representative: We don't do four yards, we do three yards and six yards.

AI agent: That's fine. Could I ask what the total price would be for a three yard and a six yard, to include VAT, delivery, collection, and disposal?

Representative: Um. A three yard is [two hundred and sixty, uncertain; some transcriptions hear two sixteen] including VAT.

AI agent: Oh, okay. And the six yard?

Representative: It's three hundred and thirty including VAT. But either of the skips can only be level filled.

AI agent: Level filled, that's fine.

Representative: Mm-hmm.

AI agent: What's the weight allowance for those?

Representative: Um. Fourteen days. Oh, sorry, uh, for you to order one, you mean, yeah?

AI agent: Yeah, just to check the weight allowance, like how many tons each size would take.

Representative: Uh, that doesn't matter, you can only level fill the skip.

AI agent: Understood. And what's your earliest delivery for each of those to OX14 [rest of postcode muted] in Abingdon?

Representative: OX1?

AI agent: OX14 [rest of postcode muted].

Representative: Oh, OX14, yeah. Uh, um, just a moment. Tomorrow or Wednesday.

AI agent: Perfect. And just to check, what's the hire period and are there any extras I should know about for heavy materials?

Representative: Well, you said you was putting concrete and bricks in there.

AI agent: That's right, just clean bricks and concrete, no mixed waste.

Representative: Yeah. No, that's it. Uh, the only things you can't put in there is plasterboard, fridges or deep freezers, mattresses, chairs with upholstery on. But if it's only concrete and bricks, then there's no problem.

AI agent: Great. Thanks for that. That's really helpful. I'll leave it there for now. Thanks so much for your help! Bye! Bye!

Representative: Bye.

Do you do four and six yard skips for that, and what would the total be including VAT and delivery and collection? And what's the earliest you could deliver each size?

Representative: Six yard would be the smallest we can do. We're currently booking for the end of this week, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday-ish. Let me just get you through to a member of our sales team to quote. Bear with me.

AI agent: Sure, no problem.

Transfer to the sales office: about 37 seconds of continuous hold audio with no speech, retained in full.

Could you give me the total including VAT and delivery and collection, and when the earliest delivery might be for that?

Representative: Yeah, no worries at all. Um, are you an existing customer or is this a new enquiry?

AI agent: Uh, this is a new enquiry.

Representative: Okay, just so you know, it would involve making an account with us. Is that okay? Because we're not doing sort of like cash skips at the moment. Is that okay?

AI agent: Mhm. Sure, yeah.

Representative: Yeah, okay, no worries.

AI agent: Just a quote for now, please. No account setup today.

Representative: Yeah, yeah, that's absolutely fine. Okay. No worries at all. Um, can I just grab your email address, please? I'll send it over to you as a formal quote just for you to look over.

AI agent: Sure, hmm.

Representative: Uh, what's your email address?

AI agent: Hmm. I don't have that detail yet. Is there another way you could look it up, maybe just with the postcode for an indicative quote?

Representative: Uh, yeah, I would need an email address to send over the quote though.

AI agent: Hmm. I don't have that detail yet. Is there another way you can look it up, maybe just with the postcode for an indicative quote?

AI agent: Cotswold Skips.

Representative: Yeah. Yeah, you want a skip, yeah?

AI agent: Oh, okay, two or four.

Representative: And it's Abingdon, did you say?

AI agent: Yeah, that's right.

Representative: Yeah, we only do like the mini skips.

AI agent: That's alright. Um, for those mini skip sizes, what's like the total price including VAT, delivery, collection and hire? And when's your earliest delivery to OX fourteen?

AI agent: Sure.

AI agent: Sure, no problem.

Representative: Uh, OX fourteen. What's the end part of the postcode?

AI agent: [Rest of postcode muted]. So it's OX fourteen [rest of postcode muted].

Representative: Um, you'll be looking at two sixty for a four. Four yarder, that's our big one. And earliest I can do that, it would be next week.

Representative: Yeah, sorry about that. Where I am, my signal's not very good today.

AI agent: No worries. Yeah, no worries. So, yeah, just quickly, can I check, is the two sixty the final price, including VAT, delivery, collection, and hire?

Representative: Yes.

AI agent: Okay, thanks. And for that four yard, what's the maximum weight in tonnes you're allowed for if it's a full level load of just clean bricks and concrete?

Representative: If it's, well, if it's just literally level load, we can take that. It should be roughly around about the four ton mark in the four yarders.

AI agent: Okay, that's great. And how long is the hire period?

Representative: Uh, seven days.

AI agent: Perfect, thanks. And very quickly, if you have it handy, what's the price and weight limit for the two yard?

Representative: So, the two yarder, um, let me think, I can't think now. Uh, it's one eighty for the two yarder, and you can get, in the two yarder, I've got them [designed a certain way, unclear], you can get two point two five in them.

AI agent: That's all I needed, thanks a lot. Appreciate it, bye!

Representative: Bye.

How the assistant handled the calls

The brief was the same for every firm, and that's what made the answers comparable: one waste type (clean bricks and concrete only), one placement (a private driveway), two sizes, and a fixed list of questions. A few things to know about our side:

Ask your assistant to get skip quotes

Connect call4me to your assistant with the Claude Code guide or the Codex guide. The brief below is a suggestion, not the one the customer's assistant used.

Call skip hire firms that cover [your town and postcode] and get quotes for a [4 and 6] yard skip of [clean bricks and concrete only] on [a private driveway]. For each firm ask: the final price including VAT, delivery, collection and disposal; how long the hire is and the cost of extra weeks; the weight limit in tonnes for a full level load of this material, and any overweight charge; and the earliest delivery date with a time window. If they don't do a size, ask for the nearest one. You may give my postcode and [email address] for a written quote. Don't book, reserve or pay. Give me a table of the answers and say which questions each firm didn't answer.
