Pottery Barn customer service: the phone number, and what a rep told us
We called Pottery Barn's customer service line to ask about order status, returns and furniture delivery. Here is the phone menu, the one phrase that got us to a person, what she said, and the full 2 minute recording.
The short answer: the Pottery Barn customer service phone number is 1-888-779-5176. Pottery Barn's contact page lists it as "U.S. Customer Service 1.888.779.5176", and the site header says "Call Us 1.888.779.5176". Neither page we checked lists phone hours. The site also offers Chat Now.
A live person answered. Here's how we got to her:
- Call 1-888-779-5176. A recording says the call may be monitored, then asks why you're calling: "You can say track my order, received a furniture scheduling notification, or customer service."
- Say "customer service". It answered "Please hold while I transfer your call. All agents are currently busy."
- A customer service representative picked up 49 seconds after the call connected, about 27 seconds after the transfer started.
What the representative told us:
- Order status without an order number: "You can't get a status on an order without seeing the order." Her advice was to get the order number and look it up. Pottery Barn's own order tracking page says something different: "If you do not have your order number, please call 1.888.779.5176". So the website sends you to the phone line, and the phone line asked us for the number. We didn't ask whether she could find an order another way (more on that below).
- Returns: "You have a 30-day window to return either", meaning furniture and regular items alike. We could not confirm the 30 days on potterybarn.com: the returns page we were able to read doesn't state a return window.
- Return shipping: "It depends. It can be a return shipping fee," for both regular items and furniture. The returns page agrees: "Depending on the reason for return, you may be responsible for return shipping costs." Neither she nor the page gave an amount.
- Furniture delivery time: "You get estimated a delivery date with your order." She couldn't give a typical range "without knowing the item."
We called on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at about 4:22 pm Eastern (1:22 pm Pacific), with call4me asking the questions. This page is what we heard.

The Pottery Barn phone menu, step by step #
- Call 1-888-779-5176. "Thank you for calling Pottery Barn. Your call may be monitored or recorded for quality and training purposes."
- "Please let us know why you are calling. You can say track my order, received a furniture scheduling notification, or customer service." This menu takes spoken answers. We said "customer service". We didn't try the other two options.
- "Please hold while I transfer your call. All agents are currently busy. Please remain on the line and the next available agent will be with you as soon as possible." No hold time estimate was given.
- A representative picks up at 0:49 on our recording. No account or order number was asked for before the transfer.
What to have ready #
- Your order number. It was the representative's first question when we asked about delivery status: "Can we get the order number?" Without it, she said she couldn't give a status.
- The item you're asking about, if you want a delivery estimate. She said it depends on the item and the estimated delivery date that comes with your order.
- The reason for your return. Both she and the returns page said whether you pay return shipping can depend on it.
How we made this recording #
call4me is a phone for your AI agent: your agent (Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT) tells it what to get done and it makes the call. For this one, the brief was to reach a person at Pottery Barn customer service and ask three general questions: how to check a furniture order's status without the order number, how returns differ for furniture and regular items (and whether there's a return shipping fee), and how long furniture delivery usually takes. It wasn't allowed to give account details or change anything.
The call itself went cleanly. Two things it could have done better:
- When the representative said she needed the order number, our caller didn't ask whether she could look an order up another way, like by name, email or phone number. That's the question Pottery Barn's own order tracking page implies the phone line can answer, and we still don't know.
- We asked how returns "differ" for furniture and regular items. Her answer was that both have a 30-day window and both can have a return shipping fee. We didn't ask any follow-up about furniture specifically.
Have your agent make this call #
If you use call4me, paste this into your agent:
Call Pottery Barn customer service at 1-888-779-5176. When the menu asks why you're calling, say "customer service". Once a representative answers, ask about my order: [your order number, or if you don't have it, ask whether they can find the order by my name, email or phone number]. [Your question, for example: what's the delivery date, or how do I return it and will I pay return shipping?] Don't cancel or change anything without checking with me first.

0:19 Caller: Customer service.
0:22 Pottery Barn: Please hold while I transfer your call.
0:26 Pottery Barn: All agents are currently busy. Please remain on the line and the next available agent will be with you as soon as possible.
[Hold, about 15 seconds.]
0:49 Representative: Good afternoon, and thank you for calling Pottery Barn. This is [name removed]. How may I help you?
0:56 Caller: Hey, I just had a couple of quick questions about delivery and returns.
1:01 Caller: How can someone check the delivery status of a furniture order if they don't have the order number handy?
1:10 Representative: You wouldn't, you would need the order number. Can we get the order number? Is there an issue with that?
1:17 Caller: We're just wondering generally what someone should do in that situation.
1:23 Representative: Get the order number to look it up. You can't get a status on an order without seeing the order. You don't have the order number?
1:32 Caller: Right, gotcha. Okay, how about returns?
1:36 Caller: How does return policy differ for furniture versus regular items? And is there a return shipping fee?
1:45 Representative: It depends. It can be a return shipping fee. Both items could have a return shipping fee for regular items and furniture items.
1:53 Representative: You have a 30-day window to return either.
1:59 Caller: Okay, and how long does furniture delivery normally take?
2:05 Representative: You get estimated a delivery date with your order. I can't kind of range it from individual without knowing the item.
2:14 Caller: Okay, got it. That makes sense. Thanks a lot for your help.
2:19 Representative: Indeed, you have a good day.
2:21 Caller: You too. Bye.
