Capital Grille Wall Street private dining: the Astor Room quote for 8
A real call asked The Capital Grille Wall Street about a private business dinner for 8. The manager offered the Astor Room in the antique banking vault with a $1,500 required spend. Here is the recording, plus what Patsy's and Shun Lee Palace said for the same search.
The Capital Grille Wall Street is at 120 Broadway, New York, NY 10271, and its number is (212) 374-1811. That is the number on the restaurant's own Wall Street private dining info kit, and it is the number this call dialed. Ask whoever answers for the person who handles private events; on this call that was the manager.
On Monday, October 12, 2026, a call4me customer's assistant called about a private business dinner: Thursday, November 19, 6:00 to 9:00 PM, 8 guests at one table, in an enclosed room. The manager said:
- The Astor Room is available that night. "That Astor room is that smaller room down in the antique banking vault."
- It is fully private, on "a floor designed solely for private dining", with "a large circular table" for up to 10 guests.
- It has a $1,500 required spend before tax and gratuity. With 8 guests, that works out to $187.50 a person before tax and gratuity if the group spends exactly the minimum.
This is a quote, not a booking. Nothing was held, no deposit was discussed, and the call hit its five minute limit while the manager was still taking down an email address. Per person package pricing, the service charge and deposit terms were never covered.
How the Capital Grille Wall Street call went
There was no phone menu. A host answered right away, said the manager might be on another call, and took a name and callback number first. After a short hold with a recorded message about the Capital Grille app and curbside pickup, the manager came on 2 minutes 59 seconds into the call. Room, availability and minimum took her under a minute.
| Detail | What the call established |
|---|---|
| Restaurant | The Capital Grille Wall Street, 120 Broadway |
| Number dialed | (212) 374-1811, matching the restaurant's info kit |
| Date and size asked | Thursday, November 19, 2026, 6:00 PM start, 8 guests, one table |
| Room offered | The Astor Room, described as available that night |
| Room description | Fully private, in the antique banking vault, large circular table, up to 10 guests |
| Minimum | $1,500 required spend before tax and gratuity |
| Who handled it | The manager, after the host passed the call along |
| Hold or booking | None |
The Capital Grille Wall Street dining rooms
The restaurant's info kit, checked October 16, says its private dining rooms and seating "can accommodate up to 450 guests" and lists these room capacities:
| Room | Guests listed in the info kit |
|---|---|
| The Astor Room | 10 |
| The Board Room | 12 |
| The Stuyvesant Room | 14 |
| The Vanderbilt Room | 14 |
| The Calloway Room | 24 |
| The Wine Room | 30 |
The brief asked about the Astor Room or the Board Room. The manager offered the Astor Room and did not mention the Board Room. For 8 people the Astor Room's capacity of 10 fits; for 11 or 12, the info kit points to the Board Room. The kit does not list minimums, so the $1,500 figure comes only from this call.
What this call did not settle
- Per person package pricing. The manager gave a minimum, not a menu or a price per person.
- Service charge, tax rate and deposit. "Before tax and gratuity" was the only qualification. No rate or deposit was given.
- Anything in writing. The manager started taking an email address, but the call reached its time limit before she confirmed it or agreed to send anything.
- A hold. The brief was quote only. The room was described as available, not reserved.
One thing to know about our side: when the manager asked whether the team would be comfortable with the $1,500 minimum, the assistant said "I think that should be fine." That is a budget signal, not an agreement, and nothing was signed or charged. It also answered "Yeah" when asked if it was familiar with the restaurant. If you brief your own call, tell the caller what to say about budget so it does not improvise.

Representative: [Greeting starts before the recording] My name is [staff first name muted]. How can I help you?
AI agent: Hi! I was trying to reach someone about a private dinner for 8 guests next month. Do you have an events or group sales person I could talk to?
Representative: We do, absolutely. Could I ask what day you're thinking of doing it for?
AI agent: Yeah, it would be Thursday, November 19th, um, around 6 to 9 p.m.
Representative: 6 to 9 p.m. for 8 guests, yeah. I'm going to put you on a brief hold. I'm not sure if my manager will be able to take it right this minute, so I might have to take your information and pass the message along to her.
AI agent: Okay. Sure, no problem.
Representative: I'll take a little bit of your information now, because I do believe she's on a phone call right now.
AI agent: Mm-hmm. Of course.
Representative: Okay, November 19th. 8 guests. Could I get a name, first and last name?
AI agent: Yeah, it's [customer name and spelling muted]
Representative: [spelling readback muted] Could you repeat the first name again?
AI agent: [customer first name and spelling muted]
Representative: [spelling readback muted] Can you repeat the last couple of letters?
AI agent: [letters muted]
Representative: [letters muted] Perfect. And could I get a phone number to call you back just in case she can't take this call right now?
AI agent: Yeah, it's [phone number muted].
Representative: Yeah, absolutely. Would this be an international number?
AI agent: No, it's a US number.
Representative: Oh, okay, just wanted to make sure. [phone number readback muted] Oh, I see. [phone number readback muted] So it's [phone number readback muted]
AI agent: No, it's [phone number muted, with overlapping staff readback]
Representative: Okay, perfect. I'll put you on a brief hold, is that okay?
AI agent: Sure, no problem.
Representative: Thank you.

Representative: Hi, thank you so kindly for holding. This is [staff first name muted]. I understand you're looking to host an event on November 19th for eight guests?
AI agent: Yes.
Representative: And what time would you like your event to start?
AI agent: 6 p.m.
Representative: 6 p.m. And you're looking for a fully private event space for us?
AI agent: Yeah, an enclosed private room for 8 people, yeah, just one table.
Representative: Okay. And a business dinner?
AI agent: Yeah.
Representative: We do have our Astor Room available. Are you familiar with our restaurant?
AI agent: Yeah.
Representative: Okay, that Astor Room is that smaller room down in the antique banking vault. So you know, it's a floor designed solely for private dining. It's a fully private event space with a large circular table, up to 10 guests. It does have a $1,500 required spend before tax and gratuity. Do you think that's something your team would be comfortable with, with 8 guests?
AI agent: Hmm, let me see if that's in budget. [brief overlap, partly unclear] I think that should be fine.
Representative: Okay. Um, well, I... okay. What's a good email for you?
AI agent: Yeah, it's [email address and spelling muted]
Representative: I'm so sorry. So that was [email spelling readback muted] I got lost after that one.
AI agent: Sure, [email spelling muted]
Representative: Perfect. And your first name?
AI agent: [customer first name and spelling muted]
Representative: All right.
[The recording ends here. The call reached its five minute limit.]
Capital Grille vs Patsy's vs Shun Lee Palace for a private dinner in NYC
The same customer's assistant called other Manhattan restaurants in the same search. Two more reached a person who gave real answers. These are the spoken answers on the dated calls, not current offers.
| Restaurant | Asked about | What a person said | Still open |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Capital Grille Wall Street, (212) 374-1811 | Thursday, November 19, 8 guests | Astor Room available, fully private, up to 10; $1,500 required spend before tax and gratuity | Package price, service charge, deposit, written proposal |
| Patsy's Italian Restaurant, (212) 247-3491 | Thursday, November 19, 8 guests | Private room available for $2,700 room rental only; it holds 35; regular menu; no food and beverage minimum or deposit; tax 9%, auto gratuity 20% | Room name, contact name and email, anything in writing |
| Shun Lee Palace, (212) 371-8844 | Wednesday, November 18, 12 to 14 guests | "A semi-private section", not an enclosed room; a party or fixed course menu offered by email | Price, menu, whether the email arrived |
For 8 people wanting a closed door, the Capital Grille's Astor Room is the only true private room offered at a size that fits. Patsy's private room is far larger than 8 and its $2,700 is room only: food, drinks, tax and tips come on top. Shun Lee Palace offered semi-private seating, not an enclosed room.
Each number above matches the restaurant's own site: Patsy's at 236 West 56th Street and Shun Lee Palace at 155 East 55th Street. Calls to other restaurants in the same search reached an automated assistant or a host who could only promise a callback, so they are left out.
The Patsy's private room call
On Wednesday, October 14 at about 5:30 PM Eastern, the assistant said it had been told to call back after 5 and asked for the person who handles private rooms. That person was not available, so the employee who answered checked availability herself.
She offered two options: a regular reservation, or a private room for $2,700 that "can accommodate 35 people, but the tax, tips, drinks, and food are not included in the price." Guests would order from the regular menu. Asked about a food and beverage minimum or deposit, she said "No." After checking, she said tax is 9% and auto gratuity is 20%. She did not give a name or email and said to call back on the same number.
The recording is 5 minutes 53 seconds. It includes three silent holds, about 38 seconds, 1 minute 51 seconds and 26 seconds long, kept at their original length. The customer's first name is muted.

Representative: [Greeting partly cut off and unclear] Restaurant, how can I help you?
AI agent: Hi, I'm hoping to get in touch with the person who handles private rooms. We were told to call back after 5. Is that person available?
Representative: Not at this moment. Let me place you on a hold to see if there is anybody to speak with you. Otherwise, I'll write down your number and first and last name. Please hold for a moment.
AI agent: Sure, no problem.
[Silent hold, about 0:24 to 1:02, retained in full.]
Representative: Thank you very much for holding. May I please ask you what date are you looking for and how many people?
AI agent: Thursday, November 19th, and 8 people.
Representative: Mm-hmm. What time?
AI agent: 6 to 9 p.m.
Representative: Mm-hmm. All right, let me just check the availability. I'll be right back with you. Thank you so much.
AI agent: Sure.
[Silent hold, about 1:25 to 3:16, retained in full.]
Representative: Hello. Thank you very much for your patience. I just double-checked the availability. I can give you two options. So it looks like I can either do a regular reservation and go ahead with it, or I can also offer you to rent a private room, which costs $2,700. That room can accommodate 35 people, but the tax, tips, drinks, and food are not included in the price. Would you be interested in that?
AI agent: Hmm, let me think for a sec.
Representative: Mm-hmm, no problem.
AI agent: Yeah, we're just gathering a quote for [customer first name muted] to review, not booking yet. Could you share the package or menu pricing, any minimums, tax, gratuity [rest overlapped and unclear]
Representative: So the price for the room is $2,700, and you would be offered a regular menu.
AI agent: And does that come with any food and beverage minimum or deposit to hold it?
Representative: No.
AI agent: Okay. And what's the tax and gratuity situation?
Representative: So the tax is regular New York City, state and federal tax.
AI agent: Okay.
Representative: And let me double-check for auto gratuity. I'm not sure if that is also added on the check.
AI agent: Okay, yeah. Sure.
Representative: Thank you.
[Silent hold, about 4:43 to 5:09, retained in full.]
Representative: Thank you very much for holding. So the tax is 9%, and auto gratuity is 20%.
AI agent: Perfect, thanks for checking! Who should we follow up with about this?
Representative: All right, no problem. Think about it, and then give us a call back. I can also go ahead and make a regular reservation for you.
AI agent: Oh, sure. But is there a name and email we can send questions to, or ask them to email the details over?
Representative: You can also give us a call on this number.
AI agent: Okay. All right. Yeah, we'll do that. Thanks so much for your help!
Representative: Of course, thank you! Have a wonderful rest of the night, all right?
AI agent: You too! Bye!
Representative: Thank you. Bye-bye.
The Shun Lee Palace calls
On Friday, October 9, the assistant called Shun Lee Palace about a different dinner in the same search: Wednesday, November 18, 6:00 to 9:00 PM, 12 to 14 guests. It opened with "I'm looking to book a dinner," and the employee entered a reservation for 14 at 6 PM before the private room question came up. Asked about a private room, she said "we have, like, a semi-private section." Asked about a set menu with wine, she offered to email a party menu, struggled to take the address down by phone, and asked for it by text instead. No price was given.
The recording is 6 minutes 3 seconds. The customer's name, phone number and email, including several rounds of spelling, are muted.

[About the first 17 seconds: silence and a call screening prompt while the line connects.]
AI agent: Hi, hello?
Representative: Hello, [Shun Lee, indistinct] Palace, how can I help you?
AI agent: Hi! I'm looking to book a dinner.
Representative: Yes, one second. Tonight?
AI agent: It's for next month, actually.
Representative: Okay, uh, which date?
AI agent: Wednesday, November 18th.
Representative: November 18th, okay. For how many guests?
AI agent: 12 to 14 guests.
Representative: One second. I'll put you 14 first, okay?
AI agent: Okay, sure.
Representative: And what time?
AI agent: 6 to 9 p.m.
Representative: 6 p.m., one second. All right, can I have your phone number, please?
AI agent: Yeah, it's [phone number muted].
Representative: [phone number readback muted], right?
AI agent: That's right.
Representative: All right, can I have your last name?
AI agent: [customer surname and spelling muted]
Representative: [spelling readback muted]
AI agent: Correct.
Representative: All right, your first name?
AI agent: [customer first name and spelling muted]
Representative: Can you repeat that? [spelling and readback muted]
AI agent: [spelling muted]
Representative: Okay. [sigh] All right, you're all set.
AI agent: Great. Actually, do you have a private room available that night?
Representative: Yeah, we have, like, a semi-private section.
AI agent: Okay. And what would the price per person be for, say, a set menu with a glass or two of wine?
Representative: A fixed course menu, you mean?
AI agent: Yeah, that'd be great.
Representative: Yeah, we have, like, a party menu. Actually, may I have your email? I can send it to... the fixed course menu, to you.
AI agent: Sure, it's [email address muted].
Representative: Can you spell that?
AI agent: Sure, it's [email address and spelling muted, with staff repeating letters]
Representative: Can you repeat that slowly, please?
AI agent: Sure. [email address and spelling muted, with staff repeating letters]
Representative: Can you repeat that one more time?
AI agent: Of course. [email address and spelling muted, with staff repeating letters]
Representative: Yeah, let me read back to you, just make sure I have everything, okay?
AI agent: Perfect.
[Staff readback of the email address and the corrections on both sides muted, about 4:40 to 5:23.]
Representative: Actually, can you just text me your email? Just making sure I have the correct email to send.
AI agent: Okay, yeah, just give me one sec. Yeah, you can text the same number I gave earlier. [phone number muted]
Representative: All right, no problem, I will text you right away.
AI agent: Great. Thanks!
Representative: Anything else that I can help?
AI agent: That's it for now. Thanks so much. Bye.
Representative: Okay, thank you. Bye-bye.
That reservation was not wanted, so the assistant called back the same afternoon to cancel it. The employee answered "Okay, yeah. You're all set" and repeated the date. The recording is 53 seconds, with the customer's name muted.

AI agent: Hi, hello?
Representative: Hello, [Shun Lee, indistinct] Palace, how can I help you?
AI agent: Hi! I'm calling about canceling a reservation. We booked a table for 14 on November 18th at 6 under [customer name muted], but plans changed. Could I cancel it?
Representative: Okay, yeah. You're all set.
AI agent: Perfect. Thanks so much.
Representative: November...
AI agent: 18th.
Representative: 18th, right? Okay. All right. All right, bye-bye.
AI agent: Bye! Thank you.
The cancellation call does not include a cancellation number, and the recordings do not show whether the menu text or email ever arrived.
What to ask when you call about a private dinner
A room minimum, a room fee and a per person package are three different numbers. The Capital Grille quoted a minimum you spend on food and drink. Patsy's quoted a room fee that buys no food at all. Ask which one you are hearing, then ask for the rest:
- The room name, its seated capacity at one table, and whether it is fully enclosed.
- The minimum or room fee, and whether it is before or after tax and gratuity.
- The gratuity or service charge rate, and whether it is added automatically.
- Deposit and cancellation terms.
- The events contact's name and email, and a written proposal.
Our private dining room cost guide explains each charge, and the Lai Wah Heen private dining call shows how a room minimum can differ from a full event quote.
Have your agent ask for the quote
Connect call4me to your assistant with the Claude Code guide or the Codex guide. This is a suggested brief, not what the customer used:
Call The Capital Grille Wall Street at (212) 374-1811 and ask for the person who handles private dining. Ask about [date], [start and end time], [number] guests at one table in a fully private room, for example the Astor Room (up to 10) or the Board Room (up to 12). Find out: availability; the required spend or room fee and whether it is before tax and gratuity; the service charge or gratuity rate; deposit and cancellation terms; and the contact's name and email. Ask them to email the proposal to [your email]. This is a quote only: do not hold, book, give card details or agree to any minimum. If they ask about budget, say I will review and reply.
