Justworks customer service: the number, the menu, and what benefits support said about COBRA

A call4me customer's assistant called Justworks benefits support with COBRA questions for a company that is closing its account. Press 2, then 1, and a person answered 1 minute 3 seconds in. Without the account admin on the line to read a verification code, the representative gave general answers only. Here they are, with the full 17 minute recording.

The short answer: the Justworks customer service number is (888) 534-1711. Justworks' own Help Center lists it under "Call Us", and its help articles give the same Justworks support number next to support@justworks.com. That's the number this call dialed.

If you're a company administrator with a benefits question, this got a person:

  1. Press 2 ("If you are a Justworks administrator calling on behalf of your company").
  2. Press 1 ("For questions related to benefits").

A live Justworks representative answered 1 minute 3 seconds into the call, right after a recording notice. There was no queue message before her.

The first thing she did was check identity. She asked for the caller's name and the company name, then said she had to send a six-digit verification code to the admin's cell phone or work email on file before she could help with the account. The admin didn't join the call to read it, so everything below is the general guidance she gave without looking at the account. She said so more than once: "this is all extremely general."

What Justworks benefits support said on October 12, 2026:

Listen to the call

The whole call, 16 minutes 49 seconds, with original timing and the full hold. Short silences cover the representative's name, the account owner's name, the company name, an employee's first name, another Justworks staff member's name, and the call reference number. Nothing is cut.

The Justworks phone tree, step by step

This is the menu as it played on October 12, 2026, calling the Justworks phone number, (888) 534-1711.

  1. Call (888) 534-1711. "Thank you for calling Justworks. Para español, oprima el número ocho."
  2. "If you are an employee, vendor, or contractor, please press 1. If you are a Justworks administrator calling on behalf of your company, please press 2. If you are calling to speak with our sales team, please press 3." We pressed 2.
  3. "If you're calling for employment verification, please press 0. For questions related to benefits, press 1. For questions related to payments or tax, press 2. For questions on Justworks time tracking, press 3. For all other inquiries, please press 4." We pressed 1. Justworks employment verification is the 0 option on this menu.
  4. "Please note that all calls may be monitored and recorded for quality and training purposes."
  5. A person, at 1:03: "Thank you for calling Justworks. My name is [name removed]. May I please have your first and last name?"

Key presses don't show up in the recording, so the short gaps after each menu are our caller pressing them.

Have your agent make this call

Connect call4me to your agent through the Claude Code guide or the Codex guide. This is a suggested brief, not the one the customer used:

Call Justworks customer service at (888) 534-1711. Press 2 (administrator), then 1 (benefits). Say you're calling on behalf of [admin name] at [company]. When they offer to send a verification code, ask for it to go to my cell, then ring me so I can join, read the code and authorize you. Ask: [your questions, for example how long COBRA lasts for our departing employees, how many months of COBRA severance we can pay if we close the account on (date), and when it's invoiced]. Get the representative's name and a reference number. Information only: don't set up severance, make a payment, or close the account.

0:00 Justworks: Thank you for calling Justworks. Para español, oprima el número ocho.

0:06 Caller: Mm. Okay.

0:09 Justworks: If you are an employee, vendor, or contractor, please press 1. If you are a Justworks administrator calling on behalf of your company, please press 2. If you are calling to speak with our sales team, please press 3.

0:24 Caller: Mhm.

0:45 Caller: Right.

0:48 Justworks: Please note that all calls may be monitored and recorded for quality and training purposes.

0:54 Caller: Oh.

1:03 Representative: Thank you for calling Justworks. My name is [name removed]. May I please have your first and last name?

1:07 Caller: Hi, this is Clara. I'm calling on behalf of [account owner's name removed] about COBRA continuation for some departing employees.

1:17 Representative: Hi Clara. Um, I'll be happy to assist. Can I please have you provide the name of the company that you're calling with?

1:25 Caller: It's [company name removed].

1:29 Representative: Okay. Perfect, thank you so much. Now, I do have to send a six-digit verification code for security purposes before I can provide any assistance. Can I send that to the cell phone number that we have on file for [account owner's name removed] or to the work email?

1:43 Caller: The cell on file, please. One moment, connecting [account owner's name removed] to read the code.

1:49 Representative: Okay.

2:52 Representative: Have you received the code yet?

2:57 Caller: Hmm. Let me check. Not yet. One moment, please.

3:04 Representative: Mm-hmm. I can also send a new code to the email on file if you'd prefer that.

3:10 Caller: Yeah, that might be better.

3:12 Representative: If not, um,

3:13 Caller: Actually, the cell is best.

3:14 Representative: Okay, so let's try the work email.

3:16 Caller: Yeah.

3:20 Representative: Um, so I've already sent that over. If [account owner's name removed] cannot confirm that for you, I can try and assist you with just general information.

3:28 Caller: Mhm, one more second, please. I'm just, they're not available right now. So, yeah, general information would be helpful.

3:40 Representative: Okay, so how can I help?

3:42 Caller: Mm. Sure. So, for departing employees like [employee's name removed], what's the maximum length they can stay on COBRA generally?

4:04 Representative: Can you repeat that, please?

4:06 Caller: Yep. What's the general maximum time that someone can stay on COBRA?

4:14 Representative: Okay, um, so I can definitely point you to the Justworks Help Center article on COBRA coverage that would provide you with that information. So if you go to help dot justworks dot com and you type in COBRA coverage, um, you would be able to review that right on that Help Center article.

4:36 Caller: Okay.

4:37 Representative: And yeah, so any information that is available there, I'd be happy to verify for you. So typically employees can stay on COBRA coverage for up to 18 months following, um, standard qualifying events such as, uh, voluntary or involuntary termination of employment or a reduction in hours. Um, however, coverage duration can be extended under specific circumstances. For example, with a disability extension granted, um, it could be up to 29 months total, so that's like an 11 month extension available if the Social Security Administration determines a qualified beneficiary is disabled within the first 60 days of COBRA coverage. Um, the second would be qualifying events or dependent events that would bring it up to 36 months total. So events such as divorce, legal separation, death of the covered employee or a dependent child aging out of the plan. Um, and then there's also state continuation extensions up to 36 months total. Um, so there are certain state programs that offer longer continuation periods. For example, the New York State continuation, which allows up to 36 months total for New York situs group medical plans, or Cal-COBRA, for example, in California, which extends coverage for up to 36 months total. Um, but this is very general, and I unfortunately, um, without verification, um, and without authorization from [account owner's name removed] to speak to you, cannot provide anything specific for your employees.

6:16 Caller: Sure, yeah, I understand. And, um, generally, if a company wanted to help departing staff, could they pre-fund more than six months of COBRA?

6:30 Representative: Generally speaking, um, that process is called a COBRA severance. Um, it's an employer-paid benefit, and typically it would, um, first of all depend on whether the company is on our master plan policy or open market policy, or if we are just the employer of record, how that is handled. However, if on our master plan policy, we would be able to set up the agreement. There's certain information that we would have to request from you regarding the agreement, um, which includes the length of time, um, it also includes how much of the premiums you'd like to cover, um, and we would need those specific figures either as a 100% figure or an exact dollar amount for the tier of benefits that you are wanting to cover. But yeah, there's nothing that stops you from paying as long as you would like to agree on, um, the agreement. Now, I would say that, um, let me just double check for you if there is a limit as to how long you can cover it for. You said you want to cover for six months?

7:40 Caller: Yeah, more than six months. A colleague, [staff name removed], had mentioned six months before, but we're wondering whether more than that is possible if the company is closing its Justworks account.

7:56 Representative: If the company is closing the Justworks account or if the employee is terminated?

8:04 Caller: If the company's closing its Justworks account. I guess both, generally. They're dissolving, so the employees are departing and the company's closing its Justworks account.

8:18 Representative: Okay, so let me double check that for you. Can I put you on a short hold, please?

8:23 Caller: Yeah, sure.

8:25 Representative: Thanks.

8:35 to 12:15, hold (retained in full): Recorded Justworks messages about large group plan selection and open enrollment dates, upcoming supplemental health benefits, the referral program and international hiring, with music between them.

12:15 Representative: Thank you so much for holding for me, Clara, while I got that information for you.

12:20 Caller: No problem.

12:22 Representative: I appreciate it. So, if the company is closing or dissolving, so that would mean that the account is terminating and the employees would be departing as well. So, generally speaking, medical, dental and vision coverage lasts through the last day of the company's final termination month.

12:38 Caller: Okay.

12:40 Representative: We do require 30-day termination notice, however, so keep that in mind. And for the COBRA eligibility and duration, enrolled employees who lose coverage are eligible to elect COBRA continuation through HealthEquity, and standalone COBRA eligibility applies, so typically up to 18 months or up to 29 to 36 months if those extensions or state continuation rules apply that we discussed previously. Um, the only thing is that there is an exemption for companies that are dissolving or going completely out of business. They are exempt from the monthly COBRA [unclear, NOMA or NOMAD] management fees. Um, and as far as the employer-paid COBRA severance limit, a terminating or dissolving company can sponsor employer-paid COBRA for a maximum of 3 months. This must be, uh, invoiced and prepaid upfront, full, prior to the company's closure. Um, and all severance payments processed through payroll must be scheduled and run before the company's official termination date and account closure. Now, if the company is still active and not dissolving and not terminating, um, and it's just an individual employee that is terminating while the company is active, then the guidance would be different. But again, this is all extremely general. And I cannot confirm that that is how it's going to work for [account owner's name removed] specifically if the company decides to dissolve, because I'm not able to look at account-specific information and confirm that with you on this call. So everything that I'm confirming is very general and can vary. The guidance can vary based on the account.

14:18 Caller: Okay, got it. Thank you. Uh, and one more thing. Could I get your name and a reference number for this call?

14:27 Representative: Yes, just a moment.

14:31 Caller: Yeah.

14:32 Representative: My name is [name removed], by the way. Um, but I'm getting that reference number for you.

14:37 Caller: Perfect. Thank you so much, [name removed]. I appreciate it.

14:41 Representative: You're welcome. Just a moment. Okay, so the reference number for this call is [reference number removed]. But I do recommend that if you do call back, that you call back with [account owner's name removed] on the line, or that [account owner's name removed] sends us an email directly. I know you mentioned he was speaking to [staff name removed]. He can just reply to [staff name removed]'s email, and that would be the best way to get tailored, um, specified information that applies to [company name removed] specifically. Um, I'd be happy to work with you as his AI assistant, um, as long as he is on the line and has provided express authorization for me to speak to you. So, um, I hope that this was helpful. Let me know if you have any other general questions I can answer. Like I said, I wish there was, um, something more that I could confirm for you, but given that you were not able to, um, read back the security code, and I don't have [account owner's name removed] on the line with you, I'm limited as to what I can provide. But I can direct you to, um, the Help Center, like I mentioned, it has a ton of really useful information, which is help dot justworks dot com, or I could also, um, just direct you for [account owner's name removed] to give us a call back at this number, um, or to chat with us if it's better, um, to get like an instant answer. [Account owner's name removed] can chat with us as well. Um, so that would be my recommendation for you. But do you have any other questions, any general questions I can help answer for you this morning?

16:31 Caller: I think that's good for now, [name removed]. You've been really helpful, so thank you. I'll pass along that [account owner's name removed] should reach out directly. Thanks again for your time.

16:42 Representative: You're welcome, have a great day.

16:45 Caller: Thanks so much. Bye. Bye.

16:48 Representative: Bye.
